Chapter 49: Cassidy's POV

The clinic is eerily quiet when I arrive, the kind of silence that feels heavy, like it's pressing down on my chest.

The fluorescent lights buzz faintly overhead, casting a cold, sterile glow over the empty hallway. My footsteps echo as I make my way to Lilah's room, my heart pounding with every step.

I don't know what I'm walking into, but I know I need to see her. I need to know she's still fighting.

I round the corner and nearly collide with Caspian. He's just stepping out of her room, his face pale and drawn, his clothes ruffled and his eyes hollow like he hasn't slept or eaten in days.

Our eyes meet, and I glare at him, my anger flaring up all over again. But this isn't the time for another argument.

He been calmer these past weeks that Lilah has been down. I know he blames himself for it, hence why he lets me push him around the way I've been the past weeks.
