Chapter 71 - Manifesting Kennō?
Muramasa had recently revived.
The first thing it did upon revival was to search for Kōga, but it couldn't sense Kōga's spiritual pressure anywhere.
However, it knew Kōga wasn't dead; otherwise, as his Zanpakutō, it would have died as well.
Its own survival was the best proof that Kōga was alive.
Muramasa knew about Kōga's past, so it guessed that Kōga must have been sealed.
Thus, it began secretly searching for Kōga's seal location, starting with the Kuchiki family.
Muramasa was aware that Ginrei would certainly know where Kōga was sealed.
However, it couldn't directly confront Ginrei because he definitely wouldn't disclose the information.
So, Muramasa made the Kuchiki estate its base, spying and searching in secret.
Recently, through a conversation between Byakuya and Ginrei, it confirmed that Kōga was indeed sealed.
At the same time, Muramasa learned of something else that piqued its interest.
There was now a Zanpakutō in Soul Society with abilities similar to its own.
Muramasa had always harbored a wish to create an ideal nation with Kōga.
This wish became even stronger after learning about Kōga's seal.
It wanted to overthrow Soul Society, welcome Kōga back, and make him the king of Soul Society!
With this strong desire, Muramasa began to plan a grand scheme: to make all Zanpakutō rebel.
Especially those of captain-level Shinigami, whose Zanpakutō could be its greatest allies.
To achieve this, Muramasa needed to gather its strength.
Although it could still move freely now, it was a fact that it had left Kōga.
A Zanpakutō cannot act independently for long without its wielder because it needs the wielder's spiritual pressure to sustain itself.
To fulfill its wish, Muramasa needed a substitute source of spiritual pressure to support its actions.
It ultimately turned its attention to Hollows, planning to use their spiritual pressure to sustain itself.
Although this would taint its purity, Muramasa didn't care anymore for the sake of its plan and Kōga.
During this time, while gathering information about Kōga's seal location, it also sought out Hollows to consume.
Since Hollows were rare in Soul Society, it planned to venture into Hueco Mundo, consume enough Hollows, and then return to execute its plan.
Muramasa hadn't expected to hear about something so interesting before leaving.
It knew that if there was another Zanpakutō with similar abilities, its plan could be executed more perfectly.
Thus, it decided to check on this matter before heading to Hueco Mundo.
If true, Muramasa intended to take Kennō with it.
Muramasa understood the nature of the upper echelons of Soul Society. They had always been wary of its existence, fearing it would become a calamity for Soul Society.
It suspected they hadn't changed over the centuries and would destroy Kennō if they knew about it, just as they had sealed Kōga.
Muramasa didn't care about Gilgamesh but couldn't allow Kennō to face such a fate.
It hadn't expected to be noticed by Gilgamesh immediately upon sneaking into the Shin'ō Academy to identify him and locate Kennō.
Initially unsure, Muramasa was convinced Gilgamesh had noticed it when it read his lips.
"Muramasa!"
Eyes widened in shock, hairs standing on end.
Muramasa was bewildered. As a Zanpakutō manifestation, it could switch between reality and illusion, making it undetectable.
Even Byakuya and Ginrei couldn't sense its hidden presence; how could a new student like Gilgamesh notice it?
Moreover, Gilgamesh knew its name, an unbelievable fact.
Even the current head of the Kuchiki family, Byakuya, didn't know about Muramasa. How did Gilgamesh?
Could Gilgamesh have better intelligence than Byakuya?
Muramasa's doubts grew.
It knew only Gilgamesh could resolve its questions.
Gilgamesh, not expecting to see Muramasa, acknowledged its abilities but felt it hadn't reached its full potential due to not having the right master.
With these thoughts, Gilgamesh had his eyes on Muramasa.
Through his omniscient star, he saw Muramasa's intentions to take Kennō.
Conveniently, this saved him the trouble of searching for Muramasa.
Signaling Muramasa with his eyes, Gilgamesh used Shunpo to head to a secluded forest.
Aside from Yoruichi, no one noticed Gilgamesh's departure.
Curious about his intentions, Yoruichi followed after informing Renji and Rukia.
Muramasa, cloaked, followed silently.
It had many questions for Gilgamesh and wouldn't miss this chance.
However, it noticed Gilgamesh's Shunpo was getting faster and covering more distance each time.
Shaking its head, Muramasa quickened its pace.
Yoruichi, knowing the truth, watched Gilgamesh's distant figure, gritting her teeth in exasperation, "What monstrous talent!"
Moments later, in the secluded forest, Muramasa saw Gilgamesh seated on a golden throne of unknown origin.
In front of Gilgamesh was a Zanpakutō.
Before Muramasa could speak, Gilgamesh smiled, "Muramasa, show me your ability."
Pointing to Kennō before him, he continued, "Manifest my Kennō."
"?!!"
