Chapter 125 - The True Schrift V, The Visionary Appears!
Among those present, aside from Gilgamesh, everyone was stunned upon hearing Gwenhael Lee introduce himself.
It was clear that none of them knew about the Wandenreich, the Sternritter, or who Gwenhael Lee was. However, based on his words, they understood that the Wandenreich must be the force created by Yhwach, the progenitor of the Quincy.
Naturally, this meant that Gwenhael Lee, standing before them, was a Quincy.
While Urahara and Mayuri were aware of the Wandenreich and the Sternritter, the sheer volume of information Gilgamesh had provided was overwhelming, leaving them momentarily stunned.
Urahara frantically flipped through his notebook, muttering to himself, "Sternritter... Vanishing Point... Gwenhael Lee..."
He quickly found the information he needed and began reading. Mayuri naturally leaned over to peer at the notes as well.
While the two reviewed the information, Yamamoto stared at Gwenhael Lee with a grave expression. "Where is Yhwach?"
Gwenhael ignored Yamamoto, his eyes fixed on Gilgamesh as he spoke, "Your Majesty, Hero King, Yhwach has said that if you are willing to join the Wandenreich, he would grant you a position second only to his own, above all others."
His blatant disregard for Yamamoto's authority enraged the captains present. To dismiss the Captain-Commander was akin to insulting the entire Gotei 13.
Anger simmered beneath the surface, but the captains remained composed, waiting for Gilgamesh's response.
Despite their confidence that Gilgamesh would never accept the offer, a seed of doubt crept into their minds—what if he did?
The thought of having to face Gilgamesh again filled them with unease.
Of course, they couldn't answer on Gilgamesh's behalf. Not only because of his immense power, but also because it might anger him further, resulting in even worse consequences.
Under everyone's gaze, Gilgamesh let out a soft laugh. "If Yhwach wants me to join the Wandenreich... that could be arranged."
His words caused the captains, including Yamamoto, to feel a sinking dread.
Conversely, Gwenhael's face lit up with excitement.
This was a direct order from Yhwach, and if he succeeded, Gwenhael would be richly rewarded. Perhaps he could finally rid himself of the burden of the true Schrift V.
But before Gwenhael could speak, Gilgamesh continued, "That is... if Yhwach kneels before me and swears loyalty. Only then will I consider becoming the Emperor of the Wandenreich."
Gwenhael's face twisted instantly, turning dark with anger. His voice was cold as he asked, "Are you mocking me?"
Gilgamesh shook his head lightly, "I don't waste my time mocking. If your people can meet my conditions, I will join."
At this, the captains all breathed a sigh of relief.
Among them, Shunsui grinned and quipped, "Old man, why not take the Hero King's suggestion seriously? I'm sure the Wandenreich would be in much better hands under him than Yhwach."
Gwenhael didn't respond to the sarcastic remark, only letting out a sinister laugh, "Sha-sha-sha."
Then, to everyone's surprise, Gwenhael's body began to vanish.
Urahara's face turned serious as he shouted, "Be careful, his ability—"
But before he could finish, his expression grew blank, as though he had forgotten what he was about to say.
Not just Urahara, but everyone else was also struck with confusion as if they had forgotten something important.
This feeling wasn't unfamiliar—it was similar to the time when they had all forgotten about Rukia and everything related to her.
"Could it be happening again?"
Soi Fon and both the past and future versions of Yoruichi were ready to use their speed to capture Gwenhael, but suddenly, they froze, expressions blank.
Soi Fon muttered, "What was I about to do?"
Only Gilgamesh remained unfazed.
He calmly turned his gaze behind him, his ruby-like eyes glowing with the light of Sha Nagba Imuru, the Omniscient Star.
Gwenhael, catching Gilgamesh's gaze, looked utterly shocked. His heart raced as an icy chill spread through his entire body.
"You... you can see me? How can you see me?"
"No, impossible! This cannot be!"
His voice, which started as a small murmur, grew into a hysterical shout, filled with disbelief.
Strangely, none of the captains seemed to hear Gwenhael's frantic yelling. It was as if his voice didn't reach their ears.
Urahara noticed that his notebook was still open, and with a puzzled look, he muttered, "Vanishing Point... Gwenhael Lee... his ability..."
As he read, realization dawned on him, and his face paled. He shouted, "Everyone, be careful! Yhwach's followers have already infiltrated us!"
His warning sent a wave of shock through the group.
Ichigo and his friends, along with both versions of Yoruichi, immediately went on high alert, scanning the area for any sign of the enemy.
But after searching for a while, Orihime, sweating nervously, asked, "Ichigo, Uryū, Sado... do you see anything?"
The three of them shook their heads grimly, unable to detect anything.
Despite not seeing an enemy, everyone trusted Urahara's warning—he had no reason to deceive them.
Meanwhile, Gwenhael was left speechless, glancing toward Urahara in shock. He thought Urahara had discovered his presence.
But soon he realized he was wrong. Urahara hadn't noticed him directly, but—
Urahara continued, "Gwenhael Lee, Sternritter of the Wandenreich, has the ability to make his existence disappear."
"His power operates in three layers: the first is to make his body invisible; the second is to erase his presence completely; and the third layer causes his enemy to forget he even exists, making it impossible to remember."
The most shocked by this explanation wasn't anyone else—it was Gwenhael himself.
This was the first time he had ever revealed his ability to anyone in the outside world, so how did Urahara know?
In a moment of realization, Gwenhael felt as though an invisible hand had grasped him, controlling his every move. The hand's owner, he instinctively knew, was none other than the Hero King standing before him.
His previous intention to challenge Gilgamesh vanished, replaced by a desperate desire to escape.
Gwenhael's ability dealt with the very rules of existence. Like most Sternritter powers, it was based on manipulating certain laws of reality.
If it weren't for the influence of Sha Nagba Imuru, Gilgamesh wouldn't have been able to see Gwenhael when his power was activated.
Through the light of the Omniscient Star, Gilgamesh discerned Gwenhael's thoughts, understanding that the Quincy was planning to flee.
So, Gilgamesh said aloud, "Gwenhael is trying to run. You'd better deal with him yourselves."
His eyes swept across the room, his voice commanding, "If you can't even handle this small test, don't expect to stand a chance against Yhwach and the Wandenreich."
With that, a golden ripple appeared behind Gilgamesh. From the ripple, a majestic, golden throne emerged.
Without hesitation, Gilgamesh sat on the throne, his tone cool but filled with authority, "Don't disappoint me."
As he spoke, Gilgamesh glanced toward the past versions of Yoruichi, Renji, and Rukia. They immediately understood his intent.
Past Yoruichi transformed into her black cat form and jumped into Gilgamesh's lap, enjoying his gentle strokes. Meanwhile, past Renji and Rukia stood beside the throne.
Gilgamesh's message was clear.
However, neither the captains nor Ichigo and his friends expressed any dissatisfaction.
They did this not only because Gilgamesh had the authority to speak this way but also because they knew he was right.
Their hearts grew heavy as they scanned the area for any sign of the enemy, all while brainstorming ways to defeat Gwenhael.
At this moment, Mayuri narrowed his eyes and spoke, "A power that makes one disappear is indeed troublesome. In the outside world, I might be at a loss, but here in my secret base..."
He chuckled darkly, pulling out a small remote control and pressing a few buttons.
Loud mechanical noises filled the room, and after a moment, everything settled.
Mayuri grinned, "I've sealed off the entire base. Even Reishi can't escape now."
He crushed the remote in his hand, laughing, "The only way in or out is gone. Now we can play with this intruder all we like."
Hearing this, Ukitake couldn't help but smile in relief. "Well done, Mayuri!"
Meanwhile, Gwenhael had already begun attempting to flee. He didn't believe Mayuri's words.
But after trying every possible escape route, Gwenhael realized he truly couldn't leave. Fear and anger consumed him, and he roared, "Damn you! I'll kill you!"
He charged straight toward Mayuri.
Through the light of Sha Nagba Imuru, Gilgamesh could see exactly what Mayuri was planning.
In mere moments, Mayuri had devised a strategy to deal with Gwenhael.
Since they couldn't remember Gwenhael's presence, Mayuri substituted the concept of "an intruder" in his mind, ensuring he would always remember there was an enemy in the room.
He then provoked Gwenhael into attacking him, believing that if he were harmed, he would at least know the intruder's location.
Mayuri's modified body had numerous fail-safes to protect him, so he wasn't worried about the damage.
Once he confirmed Gwenhael's presence nearby, he could retaliate—perhaps by releasing poison.
Of course, Mayuri's plan could only work once, so he kept it to himself, avoiding any chance of tipping off the enemy.
Just then, something unexpected happened.
Yachiru, who had been perched on Zaraki's shoulder, suddenly jumped down and delivered a flying kick to the empty air.
Wham!
The sound of impact drew everyone's attention. To their astonishment, Gwenhael was sent flying by Yachiru's kick.
Holding his bleeding nose, Gwenhael cried out in disbelief, "No way! I get it if that guy saw me, but how did you detect me?"
Everyone present was equally confused.
Yachiru, however, looked puzzled. "I don't know, I just felt like there was something dirty over there, so I kicked it."
Gwenhael's face twisted with rage as he snarled, "I refuse to believe this!"
Once more, he activated his ability, erasing his existence from everyone's memory.
Once again, the faces of the group became clouded with confusion, as though they had forgotten something important.
But then, they heard the distinct sound of a blade cutting through flesh.
When they turned, they saw Yachiru's zanpakutō had struck Gwenhael.
She still seemed unaware of what she had done.
Gwenhael was now forced to admit, even if reluctantly, that Yachiru could somehow sense his presence.
As he writhed in pain, preparing to lash out, a light chuckle echoed through the room, followed by a cold voice.
"How pathetic. As my creation, you've already lost your value. Be gone."
Gwenhael's face contorted in terror as he cried out, "No! No, I don't want to disappear!"
Gilgamesh turned his gaze toward the new arrival. There was no surprise in his expression as he softly muttered, "The true Schrift V—The Visionary, Gremmy Thoumeaux."
