By now, the situation around them had become increasingly dire.
One after another, pitch-black voids began appearing around the particle streams.
Strangely enough, objects were emerging from these voids.
Peter even caught sight of a PS controller!
He had no idea which universe it had drifted in from.
But everything pointed to one thing: the multiverse was collapsing under immense pressure, and quantum space was unraveling!
What they didn't know was that chaos had already erupted aboveground, in Brooklyn.
Wave after wave of tremors shook the streets, hammering the ground beneath the city. Buildings swayed precariously, some on the verge of collapse.
Simultaneously, quantum particles swept in from other universes and began leaking outwards.
The closer one got to the collider, the worse these anomalies became.
On the streets, bizarre phenomena were everywhere.
Streetlights fused with their counterparts from alternate realities to form twisted "lamp clusters." A phone booth on the corner had been compressed into splinters by overlapping with a booth from another world. Entire stretches of pavement were pulled toward unseen dimensions.
Some people barely escaped being dragged into these distortions!
Fear gripped the population.
And yet, no one knew what was happening.
The wail of sirens echoed through the streets, but even the police were clueless. Like headless chickens, they scrambled around, either attempting to calm panicked citizens or searching futilely for the cause of the chaos.
"Oh no! What's going on? Where's the access panel?"
When Peter and Little Black Spider reached the spot that had once held the top-level access point, Little Black Spider let out a cry of alarm.
The access point was still there, but the green safety switch—used to activate or shut down the collider in emergencies—had vanished!
Peter, however, remained calm, unlike Little Black Spider, who was visibly panicking.
He scanned their surroundings with a sharp gaze.
The recent battles had transformed him. He had undergone a profound change, now displaying the composure and maturity of a seasoned Spider-Man.
The rampaging particle stream had fully spiraled out of control, turning the area into a dazzling yet bizarre spectacle of swirling, otherworldly colors.
Despite the chaos, this small patch of ground where they stood remained intact.
However, it floated quietly amidst the multicolored void, resembling a solitary, suspended island.
"What exactly is going on?" Little Black Spider couldn't help but ask.
Peter pointed toward the distance, where a subway train was speeding toward them.
The sight of the train struck a chord of familiarity. It was the same model he and Gwen had ridden together earlier that day.
At this moment, Little Black Spider exclaimed, "Oh no! That's the subway train that passes through this area. Why is it here? And why is it floating in the air?"
Peter thought for a moment and explained, "The collider's particle stream temporarily opens portals to other worlds, disrupting the spacetime continuum of this one. That's why the subway, originally hundreds of meters away, has ended up here. But this is bad, Miles. If this keeps going, within minutes, all the opened worlds will merge into one chaotic mess, and every one of them will be destroyed!"
He pulled a small device from his pocket and inserted it into the access port. "No time to think. I'll load the override program to open the portals and send them back to their respective worlds!"
"Got it!" Little Black Spider, inspired by Peter's calm demeanor, gradually steadied his nerves. "But it's not just about them, Peter. You need to go back too!"
"I can't go back," Peter replied, shaking his head. "My world isn't the same as theirs—it exists in a different form altogether."
"But you have to at least try!" Little Black Spider pressed.
Peter hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, I'll give it a shot. But can you handle finishing things on your own?"
Little Black Spider raised his fist in determination. "Don't worry about me! I've got this. Don't underestimate my resolve!"
"Alright. I'll go tell them the plan, and you search for the safety switch," Peter said, deciding not to argue further.
From the look on Little Black Spider's face, Peter could tell he had grown a lot.
He seemed dependable now.
"Good luck!"
"You too!"
They bumped fists and went their separate ways.
Peter retraced his steps to find Gwen-Spider and Shadow-Spider, while Little Black Spider set off to locate the section of floating terrain where the safety switch was buried amidst the distorted space.
Peter leapt onto a skyscraper that had drifted in from another world, crouching in a corner with all four limbs pressed against the surface. He closed his eyes.
At that moment, his Spider-Sense transformed into something extraordinary—a complex web of awareness.
The chaotic spacetime currents around him, instead of being obstacles, became tools for him to read.
Amid the turbulence, he began to discern a peculiar pattern.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes.
"There it is!"
With a powerful leap, Peter dove off the skyscraper, freefalling through the fractured space.
After dropping tens of meters, a tall building loomed ahead, facing directly toward him.
He shot out a web from both hands, propelling himself forward. The elastic snap of the webs accelerated him even more.
In such a complex and chaotic environment, Peter's movements were surprisingly unaffected. On the contrary, they seemed to have improved subtly!
As he traversed through the spacetime turbulence, Peter felt something peculiar—a sensation he couldn't quite put into words but found oddly comforting.
It felt as though this was his true domain.
In this state, his Spider-Sense, strength, and speed all seemed to have been enhanced.
Before long, the figures of his companions came into view once again.
Lady Octopus was nowhere to be seen—she had likely fled when the situation turned grim.
Meanwhile, the other Spider-People were engaged in an intense battle, surrounding the Ultimate Green Goblin.
It was hard to gauge the Goblin's overall combat strength, but his resilience was undeniable.
Despite being pummeled by multiple Spider-People, he had managed to hold his ground for this long—a remarkable feat.
Given the urgency of the situation, Peter wasted no time.
Thanks to his earlier bursts of acceleration, his current speed could only be described as "terrifying."
To Gwen-Spider and the others, all they saw was a flash of red and blue streaking toward them like lightning.
The Ultimate Green Goblin, who had been barely holding on against their combined assault, was suddenly sent flying through the air.
In midair, he sprayed a trail of blood before crashing down.
Boom!
Peter landed heavily on the ground.
"Peter!"
"Wow, Peter-oniisan, was that move inspired by Astro Boy or Arale?"
"Nice one!"
His companions didn't hold back their praise, showering him with compliments for the spectacular strike.
Peter, however, remained focused. "The override program is complete. Everyone, get into the particle stream now!"
"What about Miles?" asked the older Peter Parker.
"There's no time for detailed explanations. The safety switch and the access port have been separated. Miles is looking for the switch now, and I'm staying behind to help him. But before that, I need to see all of you return to your worlds. Only then can I destroy the collider after finding the safety switch!" Peter's expression was solemn.
The chaotic particle stream, the tilted buildings, and the flying subway cars—all of it underscored the multiversal collapse on the brink of disaster.
For the first time, Peter truly felt the immense weight of responsibility that came with his powers.
