Chapter 108: Gwen, Go to School

"Peter, what are we doing today?"

At the breakfast table, Gwen took a bite of her sandwich and asked.

"How about you go to school?" Peter replied casually as he peeled an egg.

Gwen: ?

Peter glanced at Dr. Connors, who was sitting across from them.

Dr. Connors said, "Yes, the boss asked me yesterday to help you get a temporary student ID. Starting today, you can attend Midtown Science High School."

Gwen: ??

"Are you serious?" Gwen stared wide-eyed at Peter.

Peter nodded. "Of course! I'm very serious. Gwen, you're only 17—you can't neglect your studies. Besides, Dr. Connors went through a lot of trouble to arrange this opportunity for you. You'd better appreciate it!"

Gwen rolled her eyes. "Well, I guess I should really thank you both, then!"

"You're welcome," Peter replied with a bright smile, placing the peeled egg on Gwen's plate. "Eat more—it's good for you."

Gwen: ???

Though she was speechless at Peter's gesture, Gwen obediently picked up her fork to stab the egg and eat it.

Plop.

The boiled egg slid from one end of the smooth plate to the other.

Peter casually picked up a fork to stop it, then used chopsticks with his other hand to easily pick up an egg from his own plate and pop it into his mouth.

Gwen finally managed to stab the egg with her fork and took a bite. Then she looked curiously at Peter's chopsticks. "I can barely hold onto it with a fork. How come you can pick it up so easily with chopsticks?"

Peter gently wiggled the chopsticks, the egg still secure at the tips, and chuckled. "We Hanxia people can pick up anything with chopsticks—big like an egg, small like a soybean. No problem at all."

"What about noodles?" asked a middle-aged woman who walked over—it was Dr. Connors' wife, Mrs. Connors.

Mrs. Connors placed several plates of spaghetti on the table.

Peter picked up the communal chopsticks and effortlessly grabbed a portion of spaghetti, placing it in his bowl.

"See? Easy as that."

"Wow, let me try!" Gwen's eyes lit up. She quickly finished the egg on her fork and grabbed a pair of chopsticks, attempting to pick up some spaghetti.

It had been two days since they'd taken in Dr. Connors.

Everything was slowly getting back on track.

With Peter's assurance, Dr. Connors gave up the idea of injecting himself with the lizard serum again.

After all, he had a family. Unless someone was truly desperate, who'd willingly turn into a monster?

Though he had been kicked out of Oscorp, his knowledge and status in the field of biology remained intact.

Moreover, he was already an honorary professor at Midtown Science High School, where Garfield Spider and Extraordinary Gwen studied.

After losing his job at Oscorp, Dr. Connors simply returned to teaching at Midtown Science High.

The school administration was thrilled.

Previously, Dr. Connors was just a figurehead, occasionally giving a lecture.

Now he was a full-time professor—of course, they gladly accepted!

As for his requests for a private lab and some equipment, the school agreed without hesitation.

When he recommended a student (Gwen) to enroll, they approved it immediately, even helping with her identification documents.

In the UK, out-of-town or foreign students need proof of identity and a letter of recommendation to enroll in a school. Many are turned away because of this, but with Dr. Connors' influence, everything went smoothly.

Peter had brought up the idea of Gwen going to school with Dr. Connors just yesterday, and by today, everything was already settled.

As for why Gwen needed to attend school here:

First, as Peter mentioned, Gwen is only 17 years old. Even though she's Spider-Man, she lives in a society governed by the rule of law, and as a Spider-Man who stands with the forces of order, having superpowers doesn't mean she can go around breaking the rules for personal gain.

So, education is still important for a Spider-Man.

Secondly, learning isn't just about securing a job in the future.

More importantly, knowledge broadens one's horizons. It helps people understand why the sky is so vast, what lies beyond the sea, and what secrets are hidden deep within the earth, rather than being confined to a small corner of the world, living an ordinary life.

Higher education gives people the ability to choose their own destiny, rather than being bound by it.

Of course, there was another reason.

Peter needed to take a proper break in this world.

He was genuinely exhausted.

After gaining his spider powers, he hadn't even had the chance to fully experience or adapt to them before being thrust into the Ultimate Universe.

After a rushed crash course, he was hurried off to the final battlefield, fighting in a battle to save the multiverse.

Luckily, his teammates were strong enough, and the intensity of the battle wasn't overwhelming.

Peter managed to pull through—just barely.

But before he could recover from the events of the Ultimate Universe, he inexplicably found himself transported to the 616 Movie Universe, where he got swept up in the Infinity War.

And during that time, he met quite a few people:

Ant-Man Scott, Dr. Pym, Ghost Ava, Dr. Foster, Doctor Strange, Black Panther T'Challa, Princess Shuri, Iron Man Tony Stark, Captain America, and even Holland Spider-Man.

He'd grown pretty close with some of them.

Doctor Strange had entrusted him with the Eye of Agamotto—a symbol of the Sorcerer Supreme—and even the fate of the 616 Movie Universe.

Black Panther T'Challa and Princess Shuri had designed a nano vibranium Spider suit just for him. Even if it seemed like a simple exchange of interests, the level of detail and effort put into the suit showed that it was more than just a casual gift.

The nano vibranium Spider suit fit him perfectly, aside from its weight. The thoughtfulness behind it spoke volumes.

They genuinely considered him a friend, not just an acquaintance.

And then there was the "chatterbox" Holland Spider-Man. It hadn't been long since they last met, but Peter found himself missing that nonstop talking.

The more Peter thought about it, the more he realized he couldn't emotionally detach himself from these people—people he'd once only known on the movie screen but now knew in real life.

That connection had become a heavy burden, one that felt suffocating at times.

But here's the thing: from the moment he gained his powers until now, it had only been about ten days.

When Peter Parker had his powers for ten days, he was probably still fighting in underground rings to make some quick cash!

And even though Peter knew he was probably dealing with some psychological issues because of everything that had happened, there wasn't much he could do about it.

Because, well—that's just how things were.

But now, things were finally different.

No matter how long he spent in other universes, when he returned, it would feel like no time had passed at all.

So, of course, he was going to take this chance to rest.

He didn't want to end up as the leader of some Suicide Squad, dragging around mental health issues.

Besides, it wasn't like he had nothing to do here.

In this world, apart from Dr. Connors—whom he'd already brought under control—and that other guy who hadn't shown up yet, there were still a few things worth keeping an eye on.
