The sun had begun to dip below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the royal palace. The air in the garden was fragrant with the scent of blooming flowers, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the carefully manicured hedges. A perfect evening for a meeting, Aiden thought as he walked alongside Draven and Calithea through the palace halls.
The royal gardens were a world of their own, a sanctuary away from the palace's bustling life. It was here, amid the vibrant flowers and serene fountains, that Lyria and Queen Zarina often spent their quiet moments—where they could talk away from the eyes of the court and speak freely.
Draven was walking ahead, his excitement palpable. "I can't wait to see how the conversation goes. I'm sure Mother will have plenty to say about your visit."
Calithea smiled, a playful glint in her eyes. "You just want to see how Aiden handles it. You're practically glowing with curiosity."
Aiden chuckled softly, adjusting his stance and walking alongside them, his thoughts on his mother. It had been some time since they had seen each other outside of training, and although he was eager to catch up, there was a part of him that wondered what his mother and the queen could be discussing.
As they neared the garden's entrance, they were met by a maid, who had been waiting for them just outside the doorway. The maid gave them a respectful bow before speaking in her soft, polite voice.
"Young Master Aiden, Young Lord Draven, and Young Lady Calithea, the Queen and Lady Lyria have requested your presence in the garden. They are expecting you."
Draven nodded eagerly. "We won't keep them waiting."
The maid smiled, stepping aside to allow them to pass. As they walked through the stone archway, the sounds of their footsteps on the gravel path became muted, replaced by the peaceful whispers of nature around them. The garden was just as magnificent as always, with its meticulously arranged flowerbeds and lush greenery stretching out under the gently setting sun.
At the center of the garden, near a small pond with crystal-clear water, Lyria and Queen Zarina were seated on a stone bench, their faces lit by the fading sunlight. Lyria, dressed in a flowing white gown, looked every bit the regal warrior she was, her posture dignified but relaxed. Queen Zarina, standing beside her, exuded a calm yet commanding presence. With her golden hair cascading down her back like a river of sunlight and her striking blue eyes that seemed to pierce the very soul, she was the picture of majesty. Her beauty was ethereal, a perfect blend of grace and strength, and her gentle smile added a warmth to her presence that made her seem not just a queen, but a motherly figure as well.
As Aiden, Draven, and Calithea approached, the two women turned to greet them. Lyria's eyes softened when she saw Aiden, and she stood quickly, her face breaking into a smile.
"Aiden," she said warmly, walking toward him. "It's good to see you. I trust you had a productive day with Draven and Calithea?"
Aiden smiled back, nodding respectfully. "It was more than productive. I learned a lot."
Draven, now beside his mother, gave a slight bow. "Mother, I hope you've been well. Aiden has been an excellent guest."
Queen Zarina nodded, her regal composure never wavering. "It's been a pleasure to have you here, Aiden. You've become quite the young man since we last met."
Aiden gave a modest bow in return. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
The group stood in comfortable silence for a moment, the peaceful setting providing the perfect backdrop for their conversation. The sound of a nearby fountain filled the air, adding to the tranquility of the scene.
Lyria, ever the vigilant protector, was the first to speak again. "Draven, Calithea, how are your studies going? I trust everything is well at the palace?"
Draven grinned. "Oh, you know how it is, Mother. Training is as rigorous as ever, but I'm handling it well. The Academy of Celestia is tough, but it's exactly what I needed."
Calithea, ever the thoughtful one, nodded in agreement. "And I'm doing fine as well. It's a lot of work, but nothing that a little focus can't handle."
Lyria glanced at Aiden, her expression softening. "And how about you, Aiden? Your time here has been more than just sparring and training. Have you learned anything that interests you?"
Aiden paused for a moment, contemplating how best to express himself. "I've learned a great deal, more than I expected. But it's not just about combat or strategy—it's about understanding the past and honoring those who fought to protect our kingdom." His voice grew quieter as he spoke, reflecting the weight of his words. "I want to learn how to protect this kingdom and those I care about. I think I can do that."
Queen Zarina smiled warmly at him, a twinkle of pride in her eyes. "You will, Aiden. You have the heart and mind for it. I've no doubt you'll find your own way, just as those who came before you did."
Lyria placed a hand on Aiden's shoulder, her strong fingers offering comfort. "Just remember, my son, the true measure of strength lies not only in battle but in the ability to protect those you love, and to make decisions that serve the greater good. You'll face many choices in the future—some harder than others."
Aiden nodded solemnly, the weight of his mother's words sinking in. His path was becoming clearer, but it was also filled with uncertainty. There was much to learn, and even more to become. But with the support of his family, he knew he could face whatever lay ahead.
"Thank you, Mother. And thank you, Your Majesty," Aiden said, his voice firm with resolve. "I won't let you down."
Queen Zarina's smile softened, and she nodded. "We believe in you, Aiden. Always remember that."
The conversation continued as the evening sky darkened, the stars beginning to twinkle above them. They spoke of future plans, of Aiden's growth, and of the challenges that would soon come to pass. As the stars lit up the night, the family gathered together, stronger than ever before, ready to face the path ahead.
