Avon stood up and brushed his hands off, feeling the weight of the day pressing down on him. The house, after a chaotic morning, was a mess with debris scattered across the floor, broken wood and chairs strewn about like some kind of battlefield. He moved around, clearing the pieces as best as he could, but his mind was elsewhere. It wasn't on the cleaning; it was on Zarek.
Who the hell was Zarek? And why was he after Kareal? Avon couldn't stop thinking about it. There were too many unanswered questions swirling in his mind, each one louder than the last. He'd always been a curious guy, but this felt different.
As he moved another broken chair out of the way, a thought hit him hard—like a slap to the face. The system. If anyone knew what was happening, it was the system. It had been there for him helping him figure out this weird, new world he found himself in and after all it did say it was a guide, so it must have some answers. Maybe, just maybe, the system had the answers he needed.
"Hey, system, are you still there?" Avon called out, his voice low as he bent down to sweep up some debris.
[A pause, then the familiar smooth, calm voice came through, "Yes, how can I assist you?"]
Avon's heart raced, anticipation running through his veins. "Yeah, there's something I need to know. What's the deal with Zarek? What does he want with Kareal?"
[There was a long silence, and for a moment, Avon thought the system wasn't going to respond. But then it did, its voice cool and detached as always. "I do not know", he finally spoke. "However, I can tell you this. Demons, such as Zarek, are ancient beasts whose sole purpose throughout the ages has been the eradication of Blazers from the Earth. Your master, Kareal was an Illumar and was also the last Blazer of his generation."]
Avon froze, the broom handle slipping slightly in his grip. "Illumar? What the hell does that even mean?"
["The Illumar is the title given to the Blazer of Light," the system explained, its voice unwavering. "Light is the antagonist of darkness and the only one who can truly bring Zarek and the other demons down. Without an Illumar the battle against wvil is already lost. It is the responsibility of the Illumar to lead the other Blazers and protect the Earth. For generations, the Illumars had guided and lead the other Blazers in defense of the planet."]
Avon's head was spinning. "Wait, hold on. The last Blazer? But what about Valthor? and the others?"
[The system's voice was heavy with truth, the finality of its words hitting Avon like a ton of bricks. "No. Kareal was the last Blazer. For the past one and half decades, he has been the only one."]
Avon's breath caught in his throat. The world around him seemed to go silent, his heartbeat loud in his ears. He had never known. Kareal had always spoken about his "party members," the Blazers he had fought beside. But he had never mentioned that they were all gone, that he was the last one. It didn't make sense. Why hadn't Kareal said anything? Why was he kept in the dark?
"Why didn't he tell me?" Avon asked, his voice barely a whisper.
["I cannot say for certain," the system responded after a pause. "But it is likely that Kareal did not want to burden you with such knowledge. The weight of being the last of your kind is a heavy one, and it is possible that he sought to protect you from that reality."]
Avon closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair, trying to process everything. The room felt smaller, the walls closing in on him. He'd spent so much time learning from Kareal, following his lead, fighting side by side. But now, it felt like everything had been a lie. Or at least, everything he knew had been incomplete. He hadn't been told the whole truth. Why hadn't Kareal confided in him?
"I don't get it," Avon muttered under his breath. "All this time, and he never said a word. What if I could've helped him? What if I could've done something?"
Avon's mind raced. The last Blazer. Kareal was the last one. The very last person that was standing between Earth and the chaos that Zarek and his kind could bring. It made sense now why Zarek hunted Kareal.
He stood there for a moment, staring at the broom in his hands. Everything had just changed, and Avon didn't know where he fit into all of it anymore.
[The system's response came slowly, like it was weighing the options. "You will need to prepare. Zarek is not the only threat you will face. There are others, and they will come for you as well. You must be ready to fight. You must be ready to prevail."]
Avon's fingers tightened around the broom handle, a sense of resolve building within him. "I'm not just going to sit around while he hurts other innocent souls. I am gonna stop him and all the other legions."
["Understood," the system replied. "I will provide you with the necessary resources to assist you in this task."]
Avon nodded, more to himself than to the system. There was no turning back now. He had a new purpose, a new mission. The questions still swirled in his mind—about Zarek, about demons, and about Kareal's hidden past. But there was one thing Avon knew for sure- he wasn't going to avenge Kareal. Even if it was the last thing he did on earth, he must destroy Zarek."I can't let anyone else die on my watch. I will fulfill Kareal's will and bring peace to the earth."
