My sword moved gracefully, it had no rival in this battle. It cut the beast like they were meat and it was a sharp knife. Their bodies fell to the ground, covering it in a black liquid, their blood, as black as their soul. I can say I felt remorse, even if they were memory beasts, just like how I was mentally.
I can't say I know how I was doing this. This was my second time ever holding a sword. My big claws couldn't pick one up In my original body, but at the same time, they were the sword.
Using it felt natural like it was just an extension of my arm. I wasn't doing anything special with my body, just moving with instinct. Yet my movement looked like a beautiful dance of a duke.
Was it because of this body? Or was I just too awesome? ...Probably the first.
The words of the system whispered in my ear.
[You have slain a pawn class beast, Wendigo]
Those words brought a smile to my face. They felt so satisfying like I was breaking some strong chains that had been holding me back.
Who knew [Between Realities] and [There Shall Be Light!] would make such an amazing combination?
[Between Realities] would take care of the drawback of me losing my shadow. With its stopping time, it denied access to any evils hiding like scaredy cats. It also made things too easy. With no resistance from these beasts, hunting them down was easier than ever.
[There Shall Be Light!] provided me with something to take them down. After all, if you don't have a hunting rifle, you come to hunt for nothing.
And with these by my side, it didn't take long for the night to fall. With no threat, the night was just a meaningless vessel that had lost its host.
'So what now?' I had defeated the beast of this night, so what else? Do I just go back and wait for the next, then continue this until I finish the trail?
'No... that's not good enough.' I couldn't fall into that endless loop. I had to explore this side of the facility.
I took a deep breath and stepped forward, into the endless darkness.
Luckily, my sword created some light, so I wasn't consumed entirely by the darkness. But it was still blinding.
I walked for some time, yet I found nothing. But how? There had to be something, if there wasn't how did the beast appear? But there wasn't, just the darkness. It already felt like I had been walking for ages.
It felt like this darkness was not only outside me but also inside... not it had already been there for some time.
I sighed, I wanted to give up and just go to sleep. But my legs kept moving out of hope.
As I fought over control with my body, a light shone in my eyes. I looked up to see what it was, and with my sword illuminating it, I was able to see its figure.
'A mirror?' I said surprised. Why was there a mirror here, there wasn't one anywhere else, so why here?
'Don't tell me!' Were the beasts here using it for their looks to be at their best? It made sense, maybe that's why I couldn't find one, they hadn't put their makeup on... wait what's makeup?
Wait, but why couldn't I see my reflection? It was a mirror, so why was it reflecting everything else but me? Not even my sword, which was literally made out of light, was reflecting.
My hand moved to touch the glass, but as I was about to touch it, I heard the gate behind me slowly close.
'Fuck!' I said while my body filled with adrenaline darted towards it.
I had lost track a long time ago.
I didn't know if I would make it in time, I didn't have the speed. I was about to get trapped in this endless darkness. And now that my ability had stopped, I could only use [There Shall Be Light!] for a short time.
But as my mind filled with despair, my sword disappeared into the darkness, and instead it appeared around my feet. With this, I was moving much faster, but the exit was still far away.
I ran for my life, my legs starting to burn, and sweat was running off my forehead like buckets.
With everything on the line, I gave it my all. And as the gates were milliseconds away from closing, I crawled through, like a demon crawling out of hell.
As I got to the other side, I tried stopping but that only caused me to fall on my face.
'Ouch...' I said while raising my face from the hard ground. My face, red from the fall.
I slowly got back up on my feet, my muscles screaming at me in pain as I regained balance. I had done it, I had prevented a mass murder of humanity.
... Wait why did I do it? I mean, it would have made sense if I did it for my survival. But why was that the first thought that came to me? I wanted to eradicate humanity, so why was I so happy to have saved some humans?
It was weird, like everything else in this facility.
The mirror, the missing beasts, how we have contracts even though we were underage. How I was just suddenly able to use my abilities... and how the beasts were bleeding black blood.
That was the weirdest thing. In all my life as a memory beast, I had never seen a beast bleed black blood.
[Your contracted beast looks at you with surprise at your confusion.]
'Oh shut up. It's not like you understand anything.' I said with my anger showing clearly by my tone.
'Wait..' This was the second time my contract was communicating with me, but there was just something.
'Contractors shouldn't be able to speak with their contracts.'
