Chapter 20: After Sending Off the Sorcerer Supreme, the Egghead Organization Arrives

Looking at the strange trio outside his door, Lin Feng couldn't help but let out a sigh of resignation. Eventually, he gave in and invited them in. However, he had no intention of treating these people to tea made from the precious Life Tree leaves. In his eyes, they were far from deserving of such luxury. Instead, Lin Feng simply grabbed a bottle of mineral water and tossed it to Natasha. Yes, only Natasha got that special treatment—after all, she was a beautiful woman, and beauty had its privileges.

Natasha caught the bottle, giving Lin Feng a look of disdain. Her eyes seemed to silently accuse him of the events from last time.

The three of them took their seats, and Nick Fury, the one-eyed "Egghead," locked his gaze on Lin Feng. The atmosphere in the room immediately became heavy and tense.

"Your actions last night have caused extremely bad consequences!" Fury wasted no time and got straight to the point, throwing a topic with a lot of weight into the conversation.

"Consequences?" Lin Feng lazily leaned back on the couch, an indifferent expression on his face. "What consequences? Aren't the citizens of New York cheering for me?" Seriously, right off the bat, Fury was trying to put the blame on him. Did he really think he could scare him?

"I'm not joking, Lin Feng!" Fury's face grew serious, his tone carrying an undeniable authority. "What you did last night has already made its way onto the White House's desk. If it weren't for me and my organization intervening, you'd probably be facing a squad of heavily armed soldiers right now."

Fury seemed to be exaggerating the situation deliberately, testing Lin Feng's reaction in the process.

"Spare me the S.H.I.E.L.D. drama, Nick Fury." Lin Feng waved his hand dismissively, instantly seeing through Fury's little game. "I'm not your prisoner, and as for the soldiers... may I ask what crime I've committed?" Lin Feng sneered, clearly unimpressed by Fury's attempts at intimidation. It was too juvenile, like a schoolyard threat.

Seeing that Lin Feng wasn't buying it, Fury didn't get angry. He understood that when dealing with someone as strong and independent as Lin Feng, hard tactics would rarely work.

"Lin Feng, we're here to help you," Fury changed his tone, trying to use a more conciliatory approach. "Joining the Avengers Initiative is the best way to ensure everyone feels at ease."

"I think you're smart enough to understand who I mean when I say 'everyone,'" Fury added, his tone hinting at something more.

Lin Feng snorted in frustration and angrily responded, "Why should I make them feel at ease? I don't owe them anything!"

Fury's expression remained unchanged as he continued, "This is not some child's game, Lin Feng. You need to integrate into this society. Joining the Avengers Initiative would be a mutually beneficial decision. You provide them with security, and they offer you the life you want."

Realizing that direct threats weren't working, Fury switched tactics and tried to appeal to Lin Feng's rational side. He was quite adept at reading people's emotions and knew how to hit the right notes.

"This world is much more complicated than you think. In the future, when disaster strikes, we'll have to come together to face it."

"Complicated? Disaster?" Lin Feng coldly stared at Fury. There were things he didn't want to bring up, but at this moment, he decided to hit Fury with a big revelation. "What's so complicated? Is it the Tesseract?" He guessed Fury and his team still hadn't figured out what the damn thing was.

"That thing is indeed complicated," Lin Feng thought to himself. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been putting in all their effort to study the mysterious blue cube, but it was clear that it was far beyond human technological capabilities to fully understand.

"How do you know about the Tesseract?" Fury's pupils contracted instantly. A strong sense of crisis and confusion rose within him. The existence of the Tesseract was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top secrets—how could Lin Feng possibly know about it?

"How do I know? The disaster is exactly because of your reckless research!" Lin Feng laughed coldly. "Some things should never be touched. Earth can't guard them. Once you mess with them, disaster is inevitable."

"You always stir up trouble and only realize the consequences after the fact. The Kree invasion—didn't that teach you anything?"

"Some people are always overestimating themselves, thinking they can control everything. Do you really believe everything will go according to your plans?"

A series of explosive statements came from Lin Feng, each one more shocking than the last. Fury was stunned. These bombshells Lin Feng dropped were like seismic waves shaking his very core. Fury stared at Lin Feng, unable to speak for a moment. He simply couldn't understand how Lin Feng knew so much about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top secrets.

"S.H.I.E.L.D.? I'm not joining it. The Avengers Initiative? I'm not interested," Lin Feng said firmly. "Nick Fury, don't waste your time and energy on me. If anyone has an issue with me, let them come and find me. I don't mind showing them what I did to that giant monster last night."

Lin Feng knew that joining these organizations would only shackle him, limiting his freedom. If anyone really disliked him, he would settle it with his fists, proving who the real powerhouse was.

Fury heard the resoluteness in Lin Feng's words, but he didn't give up. He sighed, and his tone softened.

"Lin Feng, I don't know where you learned all this classified information," Fury said slowly, "But I must still remind you that fists aren't always the solution. Some problems can't be solved with brute force."

"Some things are far more complicated than you realize. Simply relying on violence often doesn't achieve the desired outcome."

"Since you don't want to join the Avengers Initiative, how about considering becoming an external agent for us?" Fury proposed his backup plan, which had been prepared long in advance.

Fury understood that Lin Feng, at just 21 years old, was a proud young man. His arrogance and self-confidence were evident, and given his overwhelming abilities, it was clear he wouldn't want to be controlled by anyone. He wouldn't submit easily, and Fury knew that pressuring him into obedience would be nearly impossible. So, Fury had prepared two options.

Lin Feng, on the other hand, was aware that while fists might help him carve out a path in a chaotic world, in a seemingly peaceful society, being too blunt could backfire. Though young and full of pride, he had a clear understanding of the situation.

After a moment of contemplation, Lin Feng gave his answer.

"I don't want to be shackled by anyone, Director Fury," Lin Feng said, his eyes unwavering. "I can agree to become an external agent for you, but on the condition that you won't restrict me. If you ever need help or run into trouble, I'll step in. However, I expect to be paid accordingly!"

Lin Feng's proposal was brilliant—it avoided being controlled by S.H.I.E.L.D., allowed him to contribute when needed, and ensured that he would be compensated. It was a win-win situation.

Fury fell into thought. After a long pause, he finally sighed. Lin Feng's resilience had exceeded his expectations. From the moment he stepped into the house, just two sentences were enough for Lin Feng to take control of the situation. It seemed Fury would have to reassess Lin Feng's value.

"For now, this will have to do," Fury reluctantly agreed, acknowledging that getting Lin Feng to be an external asset was a win. "But I still hope you'll seriously consider this. The Earth really needs your abilities."

Fury knew that trying to change Lin Feng's mind wouldn't happen overnight.

"I will protect Earth in my own way, Director Fury," Lin Feng responded calmly. "As a gesture of sincerity for our first collaboration, I suggest you go back and investigate S.H.I.E.L.D. internally. See how many flaws you can find."

Lin Feng had decided to drop some hints. First, he wanted to show off his abilities, letting S.H.I.E.L.D. know that he knew far more than they could imagine. Second, he wanted to express his willingness to cooperate, while hoping they would treat him more cautiously.

"Flaws? What do you mean?" Fury was intrigued.

"Cut off one head, and two more grow back," Lin Feng said expressionlessly, dropping another bombshell. This statement immediately caused Fury's pupils to contract, his face showing shock and disbelief.

"This is impossible!" Fury shouted in disbelief. Hydra should have been completely eradicated, so Lin Feng's implication—was he suggesting that Hydra remnants still existed inside S.H.I.E.L.D.? That was hard to accept.

"I don't need to lie to you, Director Fury. You should go check it out for yourself," Lin Feng shrugged nonchalantly. "Otherwise, S.H.I.E.L.D. might soon become 'Hydra Shield.'"

Fury didn't respond. He just gave Lin Feng a deep, thoughtful look and gestured for Natasha and Coulson to leave the villa with him. He needed to get back to S.H.I.E.L.D. as quickly as possible to verify the information Lin Feng had given him. If what Lin Feng said was true, S.H.I.E.L.D. would

 face an unprecedented crisis.

After sending Fury and his team off, Lin Feng felt mentally exhausted. Dealing with these big-time figures was far more tiring than fighting a fierce battle.
