Kaine's Pov
The castle corridors were unusually quiet this morning. My footsteps echoed against the stone walls as I made my way down to the lower levels, past the regular security checkpoints. Five days had passed since the attack, but the tension still lingered in the air like a heavy fog.
I pushed open the heavy wooden door that led to our most secure wing. Ed was already there, reviewing some papers with Mellie at his side. My sister looked better than she had a few days ago, but I could still see the bandages peeking out from under her sleeve.
"How's the arm?" I asked, trying to keep my voice neutral despite the anger that still bubbled up whenever I thought about her getting hurt.
Mellie rolled her eyes at me. "I'm fine, stop hovering. It's just a scratch."
