Aria's Pov
I leaned against the balcony railing, watching as Scarlet hugged her parents in the garden below. A pang of longing shot through my chest. I pushed the feeling away, focusing instead on the cool night air against my skin.
"Beautiful evening, isn't it?" a gentle voice said beside me.
I turned to see Miss Margo, the kind-faced office attendant, joining me on the balcony. Her presence was comforting, even if I knew why she was really here.
"Did Kaine ask you to keep an eye on me?" I asked quietly.
Miss Margo nodded, her expression apologetic. "If I'm being too intrusive, I can leave if you want me to."
"No, it's okay," I assured her. "I don't mind the company."
We stood in companionable silence for a moment. I found myself studying Miss Margo's face, noticing for the first time how her eyes held a hint of sadness behind their warmth and how much she look like her sister.
