Lying on my bed, I let out a slow exhale, rubbing my temples as I tried to push the exhaustion of the day away. My body ached from the sheer amount of work I had done, the endless files, the frustrating meetings, and the confrontation with Ethan. But despite all that, sleep refused to come.

I wasn't at peace, something felt off.

Then, the soft vibration of my phone cut through the silence of the room. I grabbed it from the nightstand and glanced at the screen.

My brows furrowed. He had sent an attachment.

I sat up, unlocking my phone and clicking on it.

A series of images loaded onto my screen.

The first one made my heart stop.

Her face was bruised, one eye swollen shut, a dark purplish mark staining her cheek.

I inhaled sharply.
