Chapter 38

Sunny's time in Antarctica had been a torturous experience to say the least. From having to run from Fallen Titan's to fighting his way through a horde of Nightmare Creatures on his own, each passing day made him regret rejecting a cohort to stand by his side.

Currently, he had just finished preparations to hide the ten thousand mundane humans who he had taken charge over, they would only serve as hinderances for what was about to occur. In mere moments, existence itself was torn open as Sunny readied his scythe to battle his way through another horde.

His new acquisition of a bow had been so useful, he had half the mind to find Morgan and kiss her across the lips. Her war bow had been indispensable in taking care of hordes of weak nightmare creatures, serving to save both time and essence.

Saint held the war bow firmly in her hands as she readied it, aimed it at whatever entity was about to emerge from the nightmare gate. What came out had surprised Sunny so much he was shaken to his core.

Six hands grasped the tear in existence, pulling the lumbering form of the creature out of the hole. Two horns made themself readily apparent in Sunny's view as a wry grin settled itself across Sunny's face.

"Connector! The bastard still lives?" to his surprise, the creature had regrown its arm too. Connector stood still, almost basking in the attention Sunny provided it before readying itself into a battle stance. Unlike most other fallen terror's, whenever Connector made an appearance, he did so alone.

Unfortunately, Sunny had no time to waste in fighting Connector. He needed desperately to get his men to Falcon Scott as fast as possible, and enjoying himself through fighting Connector would only stall his mission. Turning to Saint, a quick nod was all she needed before she was upon Connector.

Nightmare stood at Sunny's side; with one graceful leap he was on it's back as he rushed back to where he had once left his men. What he saw was horrifying, tens of thousands of nightmare creatures were closing in on them from the rear.

"All of you, start charging forward!" he bellowed, rushing past the caravans while slapping them on the sides to get their attention. They didn't need to be told twice as the rumble of their engines tore through the icy planes of Antarctica, before Sunny knew it, they had all started moving.

There were thousands of enemies behind them, each chasing after the caravans like their lives depended on it. With nightmare as his steed, Sunny summoned the sin of solace before charging into the crowd. Each swing of his scythe bisected many foes as Nightmare bit, gored or trampled enemies beneath his feet.

Jumping off his steed, Sunny placed his hands on the ground before the shadows surged, a gigantic box of shadows enveloping Sunny and the horde leaving them all trapped in the darkness.

Or so they thought. It was even worse; they were trapped with Sunny.

His eyes pierced through the darkness with ease as the black box was filled with a cacophony of screams. Blood poured from Sunny's body as he received glancing blows, but nothing was enough to stop the tornado of blood that surrounded Sunny. It had taken twenty minutes for him to subjugate every nightmare creature trapped with him.

Letting the box shatter, he charged forward, ready to meet up with the citizens he had abandoned temporarily. "I'm almost there, come on legs MOVE!" He roared, pouring essence into his legs. He felt something burst in his foot as he forced himself to move far faster than he ever had before.

Unable to control his momentum, he crash-landed next to the caravans. Two had been decimated, large gashes tearing into their sides that appeared to have been made by a sword. The sounds of steel smashing against one another rang through the air as Connector and Saint continued their deadly dance of death.

Luckily, the people who resided within the caravans were safe, mostly. Many had survived the impact of getting the caravan torn through however the biting cold was quickly taking hold of all of them. Sunny wanted to intervene into the fight with Connector, but the people took priority.

Creating a ladder out of shadows, Sunny connected them to the thirty-remaining intact PTV's before bellowing orders. "Stay close! Distribute yourselves evenly and don't separate yourselves from family! We need to get moving fast!" Guiding as many people as he could onto the roofs of the PTV's.

How they would survive pressed against the frigid metal shells of each PTV was a different matter but that didn't matter currently. Sunny watched with baited breathes as the crowd of people soon neatly arranged themselves onto the roofs before the lumbering forms of the PTV began to move again.

Glancing downwards at his injured leg, Sunny watched as it began healing before turning his attention back to the battle between Saint and Connector. They were evenly matched, but Connector's attacks had gained more range forcing Saint to divide her attention to the PTV's that rushed behind her.

Luckily, the distance between the two had increased. Sunny shadow stepped before Saint, slamming his fist into Connector's chin before handing her the Sin of Solace. "Win this, if you can't just start running."

With that, he disappeared.

Taking care of people was hard, Sunny stood atop the roof of a PTV glancing at the people around him. Their teeth collided with each other as their jaws trembled due to the cold. Reaching into his backpack, Sunny grunted with effort before pulling out a large mattress.

'This was supposed to be my bed, but who cares.' He grumbled to himself. Ordering those who surrounded him to get up, he slowly slid the mattress beneath them before allowing them to take a seat. Sighs of relief echoed around him as they finally received some escape from the frigid cold. However, the cold from above continued to bite at them.

Turning to the second PTV, Sunny jumped towards them before landing in their midst. "I don't have a mattress for you, but I do have this. I wondered where I'd ever use it, in fact I almost didn't buy it! You should thank Changing Star for this."

With his speech concluded, he pulled out a solar panelled heater. It would only last three days at most, but it would be enough to give them hope. Turning his attention forward, Sunny's eyes narrowed as he stared forward.

The silhouette of falcon Scott was coming into view.

(There will be a time skip till after the winter beast arrives and Sunny reunites with Nephis)
