“Beta Perez, I…” Before I could speak, he continued.

“A mate is your better half, Beta Perez.” I choked out the words when he let out a humorless laugh. 

“According to me, you need a mate to satisfy your needs and maybe an heir in the long run. I think I can buy that with some money, Miss. James.” 

“Don’t you feel the mate bond, Beta Perez?” I asked him, but he didn’t answer.

“I would have at least considered mating with you if you held a rank, Miss. James. But I don’t think I want a woman who is a nobody with a lonely mother and a runaway father.” I felt my chest rise and fall in anger while something broke within me. A tense silence engulfed us as we stared at one another.

"Zander, my room is over there," I told him as he opened his room door and walked inside. As we reached the bed he gently placed me on it as he stared up at me.

"Could you sleep with me tonight?" he asked me, sounding hesitant.

"Say yes," Lily yelled within me but my mind was in a jumble right now. I was afraid to take that leap into this relationship again, but at the same time, my heart told me that he would never hurt my feelings again. A small smile spread across my face as I nodded my head.

"I will. But you might have to go and take a shower first." I told him as I looked at his clothes, which were encrusted with mud.

"I will be right back," he told me as he walked into the bathroom.

"Go inside," Lily whispered, which made something bubble within me.
