The battle lasted for an hour and the number of the fogged centipedes lessened. During the fight Karl have depleted his mana, used his extra stat point in to strength and stamina during the fight.
At this time, their breath was unstable as they gasped for air. Even so, they did not stop their hands. They no longer fought with a pattern as they just slashed and hit the centipede in their range.
Approximately ten minutes after that, the Fogged centipede stopped their attack. Even so, Karl and Matt still had their backs on each other. They vigilantly looked at the fog, as the bright red eyes were still visible underneath the fog.
It meant the Fogged centipede were still surrounding them. They kept exchanging stares, but then, the bright red eyes vanished. The surrounding fog also returned normal and Karl's vision back to ten meters.
"So, this fog is the monkey's doing…" Karl muttered in a low voice, but his eyes were still staring toward the fog. The fogged centipede might strike back and he did not want to be caught off guard.
However, Matt did the opposite. As soon as he noticed the bright red eyes vanished, he immediately slumped on the ground. He did not care if the floor was stained in blood as he immediately laid down with all four.
"Hah… finally… hah… they… hah… are gone…"
As he laid down, a pang of drowsiness hit him. Matt wanted to close his eyes, but Karl kicked him.
"Idiot! What are you doing? Do you want to die?" Karl scolded Matt, "What if the monkey strikes back? Do you want to be their food?"
Upon hearing this, the drowsiness was gone and it was replaced by a horror look. He did not think that far. He immediately stood up as he readied himself for the next battle.
He scanned the surroundings vigilantly. With the help of [basic detection].
"There's something weird…" Matt scanned the surroundings and he found something weird. By just looking at the surroundings, he could tell there was something amiss. However, he did not know what it was.
As Matt was confused, Karl answered for him. "The carcasses, the dead centipedes bodies are gone!"
"That's right, the carcasses. I am sure that I have killed many centipedes, but where are their dead bodies?" Matt blurted out in confusion. He scanned around, but he only managed to find the blood that had not dried up yet the dead bodies were gone.
He was sure he killed many of the monkeys and thanks to this monkey, he leveled up a couple of time. He leveled up meant, the centipedes were killed, but where were their dead bodies?
Earlier, he was focused on the centipedes and paid no attention to his surroundings. The same for Karl, he focused on his enemies and failed to notice the carcasses were gone.
"Are there other animals that have taken the dead bodies? But why didn't it attack us?" Matt started his wild guess but had no way to confirm it.
"Or that animal thinks it has enough food, so it did not attack us?" the more he speculated, the more he thought he was right.
"It doesn't matter, we will leave this place." Karl did not want to waste his time to guess the thing he had no way to confirm. He stopped Matt's riddle game as the latter nodded his head.
Matt agreed in an instant. Even though he was exhausted and badly needed a rest, he wanted to leave this creepy park as soon as possible.
Karl led the way as he followed the walkway. Because the fog and the fogged centipede appearance, following the walkway was the safest choice.
With a limited vision and unknown danger underneath the fog, he did not dare to run straight ahead.

After five minutes, they were out of the subway and breathed a sigh of relief.
Relieved of the suffocating atmosphere of the subway, both sprawled to the ground.

Disappointed that he had used his stat points on his strength, knowing that it was the right thing to do. Relying on his skills were it could cost him since his mana can't catch up.
He look to his left and saw Matt who was still out of breath but just like him. They had fought where they had to trust each others and smiled, knowing that he has someone who he could trust.
Thinking back at the subway he noticed that a long the way they didn't received any reward for their kill.
'Is it because, it's now stage 2 that the monster didn't drop any reward' Karl thought. Dissatisfied, that despite fight with many enemies there was none that drop an item.
He stood up, although he was still tired was fine. The view of the ruined city in his veiw was glad, that at least he won't face those centipede here.
"I think we should return to the base" Karl said to Matt, who readily agreed. Despite being tired he stood up and ask Karl "But what about the food?"
"Let the others worry about it" Karl said dismissively, he walked to their base eager to return and Matt followed behind him.
