Chapter 12

Whilst everyone congratulated the pair, Caleb was the only one to remain silent, but It didn't go unnoticed. Lucas motioned for his brother to follow him and they headed outside, shifted and went for a run.

They entered a small clearing with a waterfall where they used to go when they were younger. They shifted back. Lucas sat on the edge of the water and sighed, Caleb followed.

"Be honest with me," Lucas started.

"Ok," Caleb sighed.

"Do you have feelings for Elena?"

Caleb sighed.

"I thought I only saw her as a little sister but …"

"But?" Lucas asked.

"But" he sighed, "Seeing her with you made me realise I did. I felt jealous of how happy she looked with you, and how close you two were. Don't get me wrong, I love Mary, she's my mate, but seeing Elena move on has made me realise I liked her more than I thought."

"I thought so. I've seen girls act all loved up plenty of times, you would always make it clear to them you weren't interested but you never did that with Elena."

"Yeah, I thought it was because of who she was to me. She was our little sister, someone who had gone through something terrible. How could I hurt her like that?"

Caleb rubbed a hand over his face.

"I almost kissed her, the night she returned before I found my mate."

Lucas growled.

"You did what!"

"Steady Bro! It didn't happen. We were playing about, and a wave of her hair got loose and instinctively I moved it behind her ear. Next thing I knew, we were leaning forward but then someone laughed nearby and I backed off."

"The look of hurt on her face when I introduced Mary winded me like a punch to the gut. What could I do?"

"You should have told her before everyone else found out. That way she wouldn't have been blindsided," Lucas sighed before shaking his head. "There's no point going back and forth now wondering about what you could have done. All I need to know is that you are gonna be ok with this. I don't want to lose my brother but my mate comes first, you know that."

Caleb nodded and sighed again.

"I will be fine. I have to be. It won't be fair to either Mary or Elena. Mary knows she had suspicions I had feelings for Elena and she understands that, she trusts me. I just needed to figure out what I wanted before anything happened."

"That was before I knew about you two. We went to see Elena that day to talk about it. I don't know what I would have said but then we saw you two and I was angry that I lost my chance. Elena was so angry with me. I don't expect to be forgiven by her or you but all I can say is that I will try to be happy for you both."

"You don't need my forgiveness, Caleb, Elena's yeah, but mine, no. You are my brother, deep down I knew you had feelings for her, but I'm not going to hold a grudge."

Lucas patted his shoulder and smiled at him.

"Anyway, you need to cheer up. You're going to be an uncle."

Caleb smiled at him and threw his arm around his shoulder.

---

Elena smiled as Lucas made his way towards her on the porch. She didn't smile at Caleb but he wasn't expecting her to. Lucas wrapped his arms around her baby bump and kissed her cheek.

"Everything ok?" she asked.

Lucas nodded before giving her a long kiss.

"Yeah, we talked, we're good."

Elena kissed him, gripping his hair and pulling him tighter against her. She moaned against him and the sound travelled straight to his cock.

However, Elena soon moved back and gasped. She clutched her stomach and groaned in pain.

"What! What's wrong?" he asked in a panic.

"Go get your mother!" she panted, holding her stomach.

Lucas looked down at her stomach and his eyes went wide. He started panicking and babbling. It wasn't until Caleb appeared that he calmed down enough.

"Stop it!" Caleb growled. "Go and get mum and the doctor. I'll get Elena inside."

Lucas kissed Elena's cheek and then rushed off. Elena gratefully took Caleb's support as he led her into her room. She gripped his hand as she laid back and panted through the pain. Lucas, Helen, Liam and Mary soon came rushing in.

"The doctor is on her way," Helen told them.

Helen instantly got to work. She shooed Caleb and Lucas away and instructed Mary to grab fresh towels and some clean water.

Within fifteen minutes the doctor arrived, and Elena was instructed to start pushing. Lucas paced as he listened to his mate's cries and screams. His wolf insisted on going to his mate, believing his mate was in danger.

It took immense willpower not to charge into the room and grab Elena. It wasn't long after he decided to sit down when the screaming stopped. Lucas puffed out a breath of air when he heard one of the sweetest sounds he had ever heard. A baby's cry. The life he helped create.

A high wail filtered through the air and Lucas rushed through the door with Caleb and Liam quick on his heels. Elena panted as a small bundle was wrapped and placed in her arms. She looked up with tears in her eyes, and sweat on her face and smiled up at him.

A pair of deep brown eyes stared up at the pair as Lucas gently took a seat next to his mate. She leaned against him and sighed happily.

"We have a son," she beamed.

Lucas kissed her on the forehead.

"He's beautiful," he sighed.

"Congratulations," the doctor beamed.

Everyone repeated the sentiment. Lucas held his son whilst Elena was being cleaned up. Then he placed him back in her arms as everyone left. They sat staring at him in awe.

"What should we call him?" Lucas asked.

He'd realised that in the time they spent together, they had never talked about names, where they'd live and everything. They haven't even bought anything for the baby.

Elena sighed sleepily.

"How about Luca?"

"Luca?" he asked.

"Yeah after his dad," she smiled.

"What about you though?" he seemed deep in thought for a moment before clicking his fingers.

"Lucen, what about Lucen? It has the LUC from your name and the EN from mine."

"Lucen?" she thought it over. "I like it. Lucen it is."

She kissed Elias's forehead and smiled as he stirred a little in his sleep.

"Lucen, do you like that name?" she whispered.
