Chapter 6: The Crown of Shadows

Aldenor was shattered by the reluctant breaking of dawn, as its pale light cast long shadows over the imperial palace. To Arian it was as if the world's pressure had hit him in an instant. The events of the previous days lingered in his mind, as each discovery and conflict was brought together into a single entity. He had a burning desire to uncover the secrets of the empire's past and confront the danger posed by evil forces. However, his inner strength was still strong.

NEXT DAY.

Arian received an unexpected invitation to the Emperor's throne room at the start of his morning. Emperor Arian's father was not known for seeking him out of a state, and as he made his way through the palace, repelled any impulse that seemed to spurn his curiosity or fear.

With its gilded walls and towering columns, the throne room was a stark reminder of the empire's might, as it showcased the power of this dynasty. Nevertheless, today's atmosphere was calm. While sitting on the imperial throne, Alaric maintained his son's unwavering gaze. Positioned next to him was Commander Dorian, the leader of the Imperial Knights, whose expression was still as unreadable.

With a commanding voice, Alaric began by saying "Arian," and proceeded to mention the alarming reports.

"The Hollows' presence is becoming more prominent, bringing them closer to the center of our empire.".

Angry: Arian said: 'I saw one of your killers last night, Father. Just think of it. Their objective was to uncover the Forbidden Archives.

The look on Alaric's face widened. "Are they successful?

"Arian denied, but their penetration confirms that our defenses are not as strong against us.".

His eyes dimmed as the Emperor looked on. "The Hollows are not just an enemy, they're also enemies." EDIT: The Imperial war record is out. Their presence is like a whisper in the distance. We must be just as shrewd to confront them. "...

Aleric leaned forward, his voice down. "I've chosen you for the job," he said. Then and now. Your task is to lead a clandestine expedition to expose their might and uncover the Crown of Shadows.

Arian's reaction was a chilling expression that made him feel uneasy. Legend has it that the Crown of Shadows, which is believed to be a symbol of power, grants its possessor the ability to rule over the invisible forces of the world. If it were not for him, the outcome would be catastrophic.

With a firm voice, Arian asked, "Why me?" despite the turmoil inside.

Aleric's gaze softened, if not slightly. "Due to your intelligence and bravery, I cannot see this through.". The Hollows don't think that a prince would take such. ".

Arian was presented with a sealed scroll by Commander Dorian, which contained the details of his mission and the names of those who would be present to assist him.

After taking the scroll, Arian's determination was stronger. "I will not disappoint you.".

Nodding, Aleric replied: 'Assume that you don't. Aldenor's future may be impacted by your success.

Arian left the throne room with purpose, but the burden of duty was too much for him to handle. The privacy of his chambers allowed him to unroll the scroll and examine the names.

The fact that Solenne's name was at the top caught him off guard. Thanks to her knowledge of the Forbidden Archives and resourcefulness, she became an invaluable ally.

Seris, the mysterious knight who had been faithful to Arian since their childhood, was given the name with an equally surprising twist. The mission ahead would benefit greatly from her strategic thinking and combat skills.

With a grimace, Arian looked back at the last name: Aldric. This unpredictable creature was the most powerful sorcerer in Veylor's neighboring realm and a man of mixed fortunes. Until Aldric joined, it was unlikely that the expedition would be anything less than thrilling.

Arian's preparations for the trip were accompanied by a buzz of activity inside the palace. The arrival of Solenne was accompanied by Arian's confidence, thanks to her constant calm.

While examining maps of potential Hollow fortifications, Arian noted that they appeared to be quite composed.

Solenne lowered an eyebrow and realized that panic is futile. The key to survival is to be focused.

Seris arrived next, her armor shining with gleaming detail even at an early hour. Before concentrating on the maps, she gave Arian a firm toe-hold.

She said: 'Your Highness, I know you like to have a secret mission but you've always been pretty good at getting through tough situations.

In his usual flamboyant style, Aldric arrived at the scene with a wide smile. His silver hair was radiant like the moon, and his sapphire-blue eyes were glistening with mischief. ".

The task of chasing shadows has become an enjoyable activity, as Aldric said while sitting against a table.

I am hopeful that there will be something thrilling to conclude. ".

"Aldric, there's a lot of excitement," Arian exclaimed. Try to avoid causing any significant damage. "...

The group gathered in a hidden courtyard as the night fell. They were to leave in secrecy, to only a few people inside the palace knowing of their departure. Looking back, Arian's heart raced with excitement as they all risked their lives to accomplish the task at hand.

Despite the darkness, Alaric watched quietly as his son and his allies mounted their horses. He sounded once, and Arian nodded back, aware of the weight of what had been said.

The gates stooped open, and the group rode into the night, leaving behind the palace's security for the unknown road ahead.

It wasn't a smooth ride. The. The first part of the journey took them through dense forested areas in Elaron, a region known for its dangerous terrain and bandits.

At one point in the meeting with a group of rebels, Arian'S leadership was put to the test. Arian's quick thinking and coordination proved to be the determining factor in the ambush of the attackers. Both Seris and Aldric expressed their admiration, but they refrained from admitting it directly.

Solenne's expression was incomprehensible as she approached Arian during their campfire that night.

"You managed that," she remarked.

Arian brushed shoulders with ease. "I did what I wanted." (Laughter)

The lips of Solenne burst out laughing.

"Perhaps you're more prepared for this mission than I thought."

As the days turned to weeks, the group drew closer to their destination a ruined fortress rumored to hold clues about the Crown of Shadows. Yet, with each step, Arian felt the presence of the Hollows growing stronger.

The journey ahead was fraught with danger, but for the first time, Arian felt a flicker of hope. With allies like Solenne, Seris, and Aldric by his side, he believed that they might just have a chance to change the course of history.

Little did they know, however, that the Hollows were watching their every move, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
