Chapter 8

As I gazed at the figure standing opposite me, I felt nothing but revulsion.

I retorted, "The proof is all here. What exactly do you think needs explaining?"

But Ryan spoke thoughtlessly, "Olivia's too nice to do something like this. Perhaps you're just trying to pin this on her."

"You're so repulsive, Emma," he snarled before stalking off with the woman in his embrace.

His spouse, battered and maligned, was now nothing more than a wicked accuser in his eyes.

It was evident to everyone by now that Ryan and I were married in name only.

After their departure, I was too drained, both emotionally and physically, to remain. I sent the onlookers away and headed home by myself.

The injuries from the earlier confrontation throbbed painfully, but what stung even more was the complete lack of emotion I now felt for Ryan.

That evening, following all that had transpired, Ryan once again didn't return home.
