Set Up

Inside the small living room of the Dennis family, an unsettling silence dwelled in the air like dandelions on a hot summer day.

Delphine Montclair held her head high, but not in shame. Something else- regret maybe, but not shame.

"That was one sticky family meet-and-greet," Alvaro said in a tired voice. "I'd love to apologize on behalf of my family." The old man narrowed his eyes at his first daughter, who was staring into blank space.

Mr. Dennis cleared his throat, trying to remain calm. "I'm sorry, but if Mila doesn't like your son- I mean grandson..."

Alvaro nodded at the correction and then smiled.

"If the two of them don't like each other, then there's nothing I can do," Mr. Dennis replied calmly.

Alvaro, who wasn't one to give up so easily, turned to look at Mila. "You know how they are these days... young and passive. They will love in marriage, no?"
