As night fell, Chen Shanyi stood by the window, her gaze fixed on the distant neon lights, yet her heart felt hollow. Although she had made her decision, the turmoil inside her had not subsided. She realized that the real challenge was just beginning, and everything before her was far more complex and dangerous than she had imagined.
Her thoughts kept echoing the words of the man in the black suit: "The mission has begun." This sentence, like an invisible blade, deeply cut through her heart. A mission? She didn't know how she was supposed to participate in this so-called "mission," nor did she understand what role she played in it. All the clues seemed to point in one direction—a past she had long forgotten.
A soft knock at the door interrupted her thoughts. She turned around and saw the mysterious man walking in. His figure was as firm as ever, his eyes as indifferent, but his lips seemed to curve upward ever so slightly, as if waiting for something.
"Miss Chen," his voice was deep and calm, "Are you ready to face the real challenge?"
Chen Shanyi gritted her teeth, trying to appear composed. "I'm ready. Tell me what I need to do next."
The mysterious man nodded and walked closer to the table. He took out a new document from the envelope and pushed it toward her. "This is something your father left behind. It contains all the information you need." He paused, his gaze shifting to the darkness outside the window. "Your father's betrayal wasn't just an escape; it's not merely a personal fate."
Chen Shanyi furrowed her brow, her questions mounting. "What do you mean? What does your father's betrayal have to do with me?"
A flicker of complex emotion flashed across the man's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure. "You are his daughter, connected by blood. The reason your father chose to betray the organization is because he discovered a secret that could change the world. And that secret is closely tied to your birth."
Her heart skipped a beat, as though something had been triggered inside her. She had always known her father was no ordinary man, but she had never imagined that he would betray some secret organization or become involved in such a vast conspiracy. And yet, all of this was somehow connected to her.
"That secret…" her voice trembled. "What is it?"
The mysterious man didn't respond directly. Instead, he took out a photograph and handed it to her. "This is a photo of you from when you were a child. On the back of the photo, there is your father's will, containing some critical information."
Chen Shanyi took the photo and examined it closely. The young child in the picture looked tender and innocent, standing in an unfamiliar environment. In the background, a tall figure could vaguely be seen. Her heartbeat quickened as everything around her suddenly grew more complicated and unclear.
"This photo…" her voice was weak. "It was taken when I was a child, but I've never seen these people. What is my father hiding?"
The mysterious man didn't answer. He simply pointed to a line of small text on the back of the photo. "Behind this photo, you'll find the true clue to your destiny."
Her fingertips lightly brushed the back of the photo, as if touching a long-buried memory. With a slight rustling sound, a small slip of paper quietly fell out. She quickly picked it up and unfolded it. The handwriting on the paper was still clear:
"Her destiny is fated to intertwine with darkness. Only she can unravel the ultimate secret of the organization."
Her heart sank, and the world seemed to freeze at that moment. She couldn't believe what she was reading. A flood of doubt and fear filled her mind. Darkness... What does it have to do with me? I don't know anything!
The mysterious man looked at her deeply and spoke slowly, "What you know so far is far from enough. You've only seen the tip of the iceberg. The real mystery and danger are beyond your imagination."
He paused, his gaze growing even more profound. "You will be forced to face truths you never dared to imagine. And all of this will completely change how you perceive this world."
Hearing his words, Chen Shanyi's unease reached its peak. She suddenly felt an unprecedented loneliness and helplessness. She had always thought of herself as an ordinary girl. Her life, though complicated, had always seemed manageable. But now, everything before her made her realize that she was standing on the edge of a vortex, one that would drag her into an inescapable abyss.
She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. "What should I do?"
The mysterious man's eyes gleamed with approval. He nodded. "What you need to do is uncover the truth behind this memory and solve the puzzle your father left for you. And all of this will directly affect your future and the future of this world."
"You mean… can I do it?" she asked softly, despite trying to sound composed, her fear still betraying her inner turmoil.
"You are the only one who can," the man replied slowly. "The power you never noticed is the key to unraveling this mystery."
Her eyes widened slightly, and the doubt inside her grew deeper. "Power? I've never felt any special abilities…"
The mysterious man smiled faintly. "You will discover that this is far more complex than you think. The power you wield is not the kind you've always assumed, but rather a potential you have yet to realize."
He paused, seemingly weighing his next words. "You've already made your choice. From here on out, you must give everything you have."
Chen Shanyi looked at him. Though her doubts hadn't completely vanished, her resolve was growing stronger. She knew that there was no turning back. She had no choice but to continue forward.
She took a deep breath, her gaze unwavering. "I understand. I'm ready."
The man gave a slight nod. "Then, let the mission begin."
