Horizon Before Dawn

Horizon Before Dawn ARC concluded.

----------------------------------------

With negotiations finally concluded with Sun-King Avad, it was time to move on to the next phase.

The peace agreement allowed us to send hunters into Carja lands to track machines and search for ancient data caches. Now, with the war behind us, even I could explore old facilities to my heart's content that didn't require Aloy's DNA for access.

The knowledge hidden within them was invaluable for our progress, and I longed for adventure, to see more of the world. I was tired of war, our true enemies weren't humans, but the relentless machines and aliens that sought to exterminate all life on Earth.

The not so little Aloy was thrilled with the new school in the capital. Though she couldn't be there in person, she appeared as a hologram using her focus, engaging with the other children. They didn't care that she had once been an outcast, her intelligence and kindness made her a natural leader. Even from afar, she was by far our best student. The children of the capital were learning to use the Focus from an early age. We didn't yet have enough for everyone, but it was a solid start. Still, Aloy was in a league of her own, she truly had the protagonist aura.

With Albedo pregnant, I wanted her to stay behind and govern in safety. The thought of her taking risks, climbing treacherous cliffs and dodging deadly machines, just because I was restless was unacceptable. A small team of Spartans and I would be more than enough to recover lost technology and maybe scout for a good place to settle in the forbidden west, but without Aloy DNA getting the GAIA kernel was impossible.

The Matriarchs had stopped reaching out to me, likely satisfied that I wasn't interfering in their way of life. Sona, unwilling to wage war against her own people, was another advantage in my favor. Mother's Crown had already begun trading with us, so there was little more to be done there, I was getting there slow but steady.

When Olin and the Shadow Carja cross paths with Aloy during her Proving, they will launch a full-scale attack on the Embrace. That will be my moment to intervene. When Helis's zealots breach the gates, I will appear as the savior.

It pains me that so many lives will be lost, but for the greater good, the Matriarchs must fall. And for that to happen, the invasion was inevitable, I needed the corruptors to come so I could tame machines, I had searched far and wide but could not find one of those machines.

Rhea found Ourea in Carja territory before the war, earning me favor with CYAN. Now, I just need a free Cauldron to serve as a new server for her, and I will gain a powerful ally. She could become a teacher or even develop new kinds of machines. With time and resources, she will be invaluable.

And so, ten years have passed. Ten years in this beautiful yet deadly world, a world I will do everything in my power to protect.

The main plot of Horizon Zero Dawn was about to start.
