Chapter 7

My colleagues all knew I had a girlfriend I was hopelessly in love with, working myself to the bone so she could live a good life.

They thought I was just putting on a brave face earlier, afraid Vivienne's betrayal would leave me depressed and hopeless.

They all came to console me.

I just smiled faintly, telling them I'd seen her true colors and wouldn't let her affect me anymore.

When I got home that night, Vivienne had, for the first time ever, prepared a table full of delicious dishes and even set out some wine.

She wrapped her arms around me with a tender smile, trying to butter me up:

"Darling, you must be starving after such a long day. Come try what I've made, just for you."

I pried her hands off, staring at her expressionlessly:

"Vivienne, we're breaking up."

"And don't bother with these pointless gestures. It's too late to start trying to please me now."
