Chapter 4

I could even hear Serenity's voice crystal clear, but he just assumed my hearing was deteriorating and I couldn't hear it. He took it for granted that I was crying because of a nightmare, not because of him.

Carter and I had originally planned to go to the mountains for our honeymoon, but on a whim, I insisted on going abroad.

Serenity called countless times trying to stop us, but in the end Carter just nodded gently, brushing my sweat-soaked bangs from my forehead.

"Wherever Melody wants to go, I'll go with her. I'll be by her side for a lifetime."

The place I wanted to go was that private hospital overseas.

The hospital was built by the sea. I told Carter I wanted to see the ocean, and he agreed without much suspicion.

Thinking about my childish behavior, I smiled self-mockingly.

I wanted Carter to deliver me to that hospital with his own hands, then personally dissect my remains.

On our first day after landing, Carter pushed my wheelchair to the beach.

The sunset glow spilled across the sea - it should have been a beautiful scene, but I received a message from Serenity.

It was a photo of her and Carter in bed from our wedding night.

I exited the screen indifferently without replying.

Another video quickly came through from her side.

"Melody, I'm impressed by your patience. But can you handle this video?"

From the cover, I knew it was the video from the cave.

The truth I had been searching for all these years.

I smiled at Carter and said, "I'd like some warm milk."

Carter was a bit surprised. Lately, I seemed to have changed, no longer carefully trying to please him or feeling inferior, but becoming more straightforward with my requests.

He smiled too. "Melody, be a good girl and wait here. I'll go get you some warm milk."

After sending Carter away, I first sent all the video photos to my lawyer, then opened the video with trembling hands.

Serenity originally had clothes on, but they were torn off by Carter.

They were wild in the cave, like primitive humans from ancient times, with no manners, only the most primal desires.

And their friends were chatting and laughing in front, covering for them.

Serenity, panting heavily between moans, taunted, "Carter, do you dare not go back to spend your girlfriend's birthday with her today?"

Carter said nothing, just kept thrusting forcefully.

Serenity, with a wicked sense of humor, took Carter's phone and started typing a message to me.

"Darling, I'm trapped in a cave and won't be back until tomorrow. Keep up the good work!"

Before long, firefighters arrived in waves.

The fellow partygoers got scared and left early.

Only Serenity and Carter couldn't bear to leave. Carter sent me a message, warning me not to call the police again.

The two were lost in their passionate entanglement. By the time they saw my message saying I was coming to rescue them myself, I was already approaching the mountain area.

Carter panicked, "Melody can't find out I've been lying to her! Quick, think of something!"

Serenity looked at the research bags they were carrying and put on an oxygen mask. "Well, aren't these all poisons? If you don't want to lie, why not make the lie come true?"

Carter gritted his teeth and took out an unlabeled glass bottle, smashing it hard against the cave entrance.

"This chemical reagent was forgotten to be logged last week. There's only one bottle in the sample storage now, so even if they investigate, they won't be able to figure out what kind of poison this is."

Serenity, disregarding her torn clothes, settled back into Carter's lap.

"That poison sample you sent last week was quite potent! Are you trying to kill that boring girlfriend of yours so you can be with me officially?"

As the scene played out, my body began to shake violently. It felt like someone was squeezing my throat, making it hard to breathe. I fell out of my wheelchair.

My vision blurred, and most of my sight and hearing faded away.

The shock from this video triggered a severe physical reaction, causing my already weak body to give out completely.

The phone slowly slipped from my hand onto the beach, gradually buried by sand carried by gusts of wind.

Before I lost consciousness, I saw Carter's figure running towards me like a madman.
