Isabella's POV
The auction hall buzzed with quiet conversations, clinking glasses adding to the murmur filling the space. Despite the earlier encounter with Alex, the evening continued as if nothing had happened. But for me, the tension was still there, hovering like a cloud. I could feel Alex’s eyes on us, his gaze burning into my back, and though I tried to ignore it, it unsettled me. Chloe, seated next to him, looked far too comfortable in his company. In my previous life, I had never noticed any connection between them.
I didn’t have time to dwell on it. The auction was about to begin, and I had to focus. My mother’s necklace was on the list, and I couldn’t let myself get distracted by Chloe’s schemes or Alex’s smirks.
