Chapter 14 - Duel Date

Isabella’s POV

York’s eyes flicked between Ethan and me nervously. The tension in the room felt like a physical form, and York slowly stepped to one corner of the room, as if scared of getting caught in the crossfire.

Wise man.

Ethan’s stern expression didn’t waver for the longest while, and my awkwardness grew to the point where I felt the need to copy York’s actions. But I reminded myself why I was here and set my shoulders back bravely.

“Only if it won’t be too much trouble. I’d love to watch it,” I said in his continued silence.

His brows wrinkled at my words, and I expected him to deny my request, but he simply nodded and started to the door with a terse, “Come.”

The air in the dueling area was rife with excitement. By the time we got there, dozens of officers were littering the seated areas surrounding the rest of the field.
