“It’s a hallucinogenic drug,” York told me a few hours later. I had been sequestered in my office at home, more focused on Isabella than I was on the problem at hand. I accepted the tablet York handed to me with the test results.
“The dosage she ingested wasn’t fatal, but it was enough to have caused a strong adverse reaction,” York continued to explain.
I frowned down at the tox screen report. “Origin?”
York sighed. “Miss Pierce denies any knowledge of the drug’s source.”
Something in York’s tone pulled my attention to him. To anyone else, his impassive expression would be hard to decipher. However, I’d known this man for most of my military career.
“You don’t believe her?” I asked him with a raised brow.
