"Our wedding's tomorrow; the gossip will fade," Liam said nervously, attempting to grasp my hand, "We trust you, knowing it's just a mix-up with that guy, you're only trying to provoke us, aren't you? Now I'll fulfill your request."
I softly pulled my hand away and asked casually: "Was this your doing?"
Their faces changed, gripping my hand firmly.
"Sophia was behind it; she's been reprimanded," Liam quickly clarified.
I certainly knew the truth. Sophia was upset about her demotion, and my two lifelong friends kept gifting her jewelry to placate her.
I shook my head and said, "Remember those gadgets you presented to me?"
They became still.
"It's time to replace old things," I responded coolly, turning to depart.
"Layla Parker!" Liam and Lucas yelled together, "Are you truly willing to abandon everything?"
I halted, nodded slightly: "Fine, assist me in selecting a bridal gown."
A spark of optimism appeared in their eyes, as if they glimpsed a chance for change.
