Desperate Plea

Meliza's POV

"Are you ready?" Ruby's voice was steady, but I could barely hear her over the deafening sound of my heartbeat. It pounded in my chest like a war drum, drowning out everything else.

"Yes," I lied, forcing a smile.

Ruby studied me for a moment as if she could see past my façade, but thankfully, she didn't press. She looked absolutely stunning in her emerald gown, the deep green fabric complementing her complexion perfectly. She was my matron of honor, my best friend, and the one person who had been by my side through everything.

She reached out, adjusting the delicate lace on my sleeve and smoothing out the fabric of my wedding gown as if perfecting every last detail could somehow ease my nerves. But no matter how beautiful or perfect the dress seemed, I couldn't shake the overwhelming unease coiling inside me.
