Choosing Her

Ethan's POV

"Are you sure you don't know where she is?" I asked Jessa for what felt like the hundredth time. My voice was raw, a mixture of fear, frustration, and disbelief clinging to every word.

Jessa's eyes widened. "Ethan, I told you—I have no idea where she is. If I did, I'd tell you right away. Why? What's going on? The last message I got from her said she was at your parents' house."

"She was," I murmured, dragging a hand through my hair. "I picked her up the other night. We spent the night together. She was in my arms until morning… but when I got home from the office yesterday, she was gone and just gone. And her phone's been off since. I've tried everything. It's been more than twenty-four hours."

"You didn't fight?" Ruby asked cautiously.

I shook my head, swallowing hard. "No. We were… happy. Peaceful. She looked so content sleeping beside me. There was no sign, no hint she was planning to leave."
