Chapter 3: Fragments of Memory

Sera couldn't explain why she trusted the stranger, but something about him felt familiar, as though she had known him all her life. He introduced himself as Kael, a wandering knight who had been passing through the village. But his story was vague, and the intensity in his eyes made her uneasy.

Over the next few days, Kael appeared wherever Sera went. He would help her carry firewood, assist with the herbs, and even mend the broken fences around the cottage. Maeryn raised an eyebrow at his sudden interest in their lives, but Sera couldn't bring herself to send him away. She found herself drawn to him, despite her better judgment.

Then the dreams began to intensify. Sera saw herself standing on a battlefield, wearing a suit of gleaming armor. Kael was beside her, his silver eyes fierce with determination. They fought together, side by side, against an army led by a shadowy figure. The dream always ended the same way—with her falling to the ground, blood soaking the earth, and Kael screaming her name.

One evening, as she worked late in the garden, Kael approached her. "Do you believe in past lives?" he asked suddenly. Sera looked up, startled. "What kind of question is that?"

"I believe we've met before," he said, his voice quiet. "In another life." Sera laughed nervously. "That's ridiculous. How could that be possible?"

But as she looked into his eyes, a memory surfaced—Kael holding her hand, his face streaked with tears, as he whispered, "I'll find you again." She gasped, stepping back. "What's happening to me?"

Kael's expression softened. "You're starting to remember."
