I started the tap and warm showers dropped on me like rainfall. My brain was still damp and I could barely remember what really transpired back at Lila's mansion. I wanted to convince myself that I really saw a figure appeared before me before I drifted into nothingness but Ophelia said there was nothing like that.
Later, I saw that my temple was swollen from a smack. A very hard one and I didn't remember falling or hitting my head on anything. I didn't engage in any battle either.
I suspected something wierd but I just couldn't decipher.
While I bath, Lila's thought entered my world. If Ophelia said Lila travelled for some family emergency, Mario was right. She was definitely supposed to be with her.
Bubbles of scented soap was washed off and I concluded my bath and stepped out of the bathroom. Pulled a face towel hanging at the rim and dabbed my face first, then I proceeded to dry my hair.
I didn't bother to cover myself as I stepped out of the bathroom into my room. Whom I saw made me jump in shock.
"Goodness Cassie! When did you get into my room!" I quickly went for a lying cloth to cover my cock.
Cassandra was a family friend. A childhood friend too. My father and her dad were business partners for years and they successfully built their own company investing into each other. While her mother and my mum were members of the same women club in the community and they were on good lanes.
"Hello Leonardo." She flashed her white dentition with a warm smile. She was lying face down on my bed with her head raised to gush at me. Her dress left even little to imagination. A free piece of red gown, armless and far above knee length.
"Can you just stop invading my privacy? We're no longer children." I quickly picked my pant and rammed it on my waist.
"So sweet. So big and alluring! Can I ask you a question?" She rose and sat up on the bed.
"Shoot." I sighed.
"Why don't you find me attractive? Her eyes gazed into mine and I fidgeted a little bit.
"As I've always told you, we've been friends since babies. We've had enough of each other so I don't think I have any feelings available for you." I struggled to put on a plain white polo, and a denim jacket to go.
"Ouch. That hurts! I love you though. And I find you attractive. Leonardo." She pulled my name in such seductive grin.
"You've told me that a number of things. And you don't listen when I told you not to come today. I'm having breakfast meeting with Mario today."
"Is there something going on between you and Mario? Are you gay?"
She crawled out of bed and was now standing straight before me.
I winced at her comment. "Cassie! I'm fucking straight for God sake. And I'm in love with someone else."
"Who? Lila? That blonde? You're wasting your time. She has eyes for someone else." She grinned and walked away from me.
Yeah, I knew that. Mason! A peasant who I've seen once or twice around her.
I gritted and my fist rolled into a deep clench when I saw her smile around him. At the community, they seemed to be enjoying each other's company.
"I know that already." I mumbled.
"Ahhh. That's so pathetic yet interesting. What do we call this circle? Square love?"
She was at my door now. She pulled it wide open and paused.
"Like I said, you're wasting your time on Lila. It'll be me when you're ready. I'm always there."
Then she left. Silence ensued. I rarely thought of what she said before I called Mario for the breakfast meeting.
There was a restaurant that sat majestically in the center of Tadley. Mario and I would be found there biting into a some cookies, a pretzel and compensating hot coffee.
"She's told me I'm wasting my time on Lila." I said regretfully.
"What do you expect her to say when she's in love with you. Shit!" He sipped his coffee dryly.
"But you love her. Did you try my advice?"
He chuckled. " 'Cassie, I love you. My feelings for you are valid and I can get the world for you' fuck you for telling me to shoot my shot. She told me to fuck off." He hissed and I laughed heartily.
His display was what caused my throat to croak in laughter. I stopped after a while.
"I'm sorry man. This world works so differently and wierd. I love Lila but she doesn't love me back. You love Cassie but she told you to fuck off, she claimed she loved me but I wrote her off. Damn!"
I heard footsteps behind me and I turned. It was Mason. Surprisingly. Wearing the restaurant's uniform.
I never knew he worked here.
"Can I get you something else?" I noticed a glow in his eyes since when I saw him and I was disgusted.
"Mason! Surprised to find you here!"
"President Leo. Glad you're here." He returned the warmth and I could swear, we were faking.
My mind urged me to ask Lila almost immediately. If Ophelia was lying to me, I would know. Definitely find out the truth from Mason.
"Actually Mason. Have a seat please."
He hesitated. "No, I can't. I'm working."
"I insist." I pleaded beckoning on a seat by me side.
"Okay then." He pulled a chair backward and sat.
"Let's cut to the chase. Where is Lila."
"Why are you asking me about Lila? She should be at the Mansion of course."
I noticed the sudden tremor in his hands and he cupped them to prevent any outburst.
"Are you telling the truth?"
He smirked. "What are you, a detective? You shouldn't be asking me about Lila."
"C'mon, we all know you're her boyfriend." Mario chirp.
"We're not." He said under his breath but I heard him. I swore to God, I wanted to punch him really hard on his eyes for lying.
"You fucking liar. Just so you know, Lila isn't at the Mansion and Ophelia seemed weird. I don't know what you two fucking plan is but I swear I"ll get to the end of it, and when I do, you will be going down." I threatened in a thick sonorous hushed voice.
I let my eyes flared with burning anger and determine that when he looked at me, he was seeing real threat and not an empty barrel.
"I…I… didn't do anything to her. Please."
"Then you'll tell us what you fucking know!" Mario howled.
"The last time I saw her was at the ball. She seemed to leave the room after she talked with you. I didn't know anything after that because I was serving drinks." He explained in a rush.
"You are not telling the truth."
I snapped.
"I swear I am telling the truth."
"He's telling the truth." Mario announced with a narrowed eyes.
"Good boy. Now run along." I ordered and he scurried back to his workspace.
"Ophelia lied. Lila has been missing since after the party. Shit! Blame would be on me."
"Partly. Because why did Ophelia lie to us? And to you at the party that night. There's something Ophelia is hiding."
"We need to go to the police and file a missing person report."
"And then what? Get investigated? What would happen to your company?" Mario asked and I saw light in his word.
"What do you think I do then? I can't just sit still and watch Lila missing without doing anything?"
"We can do a duo search. Just like a secret mission. The creed! The adventure we once joked about."
His eyes widened in excitement and something in me was equally amused.
"You sure about that?" I furrowed my brows.
"I ain't joking about that man. We're boy
scout."
He finalized and I nodded my head to agree. I was very much interested in an adventurous journey to look for Lila.
