Chapter 2 The Room In The Annex

Aurelia ran without looking back.

Despite having a head start of a few seconds, the warriors closed up on her pretty fast.

They worked for the alpha and were responsible for keeping the peace and arresting delinquents.

So when people saw them chasing a girl who looked like a delinquiet, they naturally made way for them.

Aurelia repeatedly glanced behind her shoulders, returning her eyes to her front every two seconds whilst her mind thought fast on what to do.

"Don't let her get past you!" One of the warriors suddenly roared when she was about to approach a group of drunks.

Almost immediately, the drunkards all reached out to grab her.

But because they were all drunk, they fell on each other one after the other, burying her underneath them.

By the time the warriors pulled them away to find her, the petite girl had long squeezed out from underneath them and made it into the room at the annex.

As soon as she walked in, she felt the door locking behind her and tried to pull it open all to no avail.

Pressing her lips together, she turned to glance around.

The lit lantern was barely illuminating the room and since she had no wolf, she couldn't see how her surrounding looked.

Biting down on her lower lips, she called out in a shaky voice, "He-hello! Is anyone here? My name's Aurelia Night and I didn't mean to barge in without knocking."

"But you see, some really bad men were after me and I needed somewhere to hide. I hope you don't pick offense and choose to throw me out of your room."

She then waited to hear a reply.

One second. Three seconds. Ten seconds.

Her tense shoulders relaxed and she was just about to exhale in relief that she hadn't barged into someone's room when the shadow of a man getting out of the bathing pool behind the curtain assaulted her eyes.

She quickly spurned around when his shadow reflected on the curtain, clenching her jaw tightly in realization that she might've seen something she shouldn't have.

"M-my lord, please forgive me. I didn't know you were there."

In response, a heavy exhale filled the room along with the sloshing of the water as the man got out of the bathing pool.

"My lord, don't mind me. Please let me stay in here with you for a an hour or less. I won't say a word. I'll be invisible and before you know it,

I'll be gone."

The man still said nothing, making her purse her lips tightly.

She could tell from the shadow on the wall in front of her, that he was wiping his body.

When he was done, he tied a linen around his lower body and pulled apart the curtain.

But he had just stepped into the room when a sweet scent hit him. It was unlike he had smelt before.

And this magnetic pull…

His wolf was getting excited.

His eyes finally settled on the girl standing with her back to him.

Was his wolf getting excited because of her?

Meanwhile, Aurelia resisted the urge to turn around, a million and one thought swelling in her mind as the man's breathing suddenly got louder.

Was he angry? Did she anger him already?

She was a lowborn. The lowest of them all who didn't even have parents. No, she didn't even know if she had one.

If it wasn't a fact that a child could only come about when a man and woman had sexual intercourse, she would've long concluded she fell from the sky.

Since she wasn't a child her parents wanted, someone of her status was considered trash by literally everyone.

Even the dogs on the streets had a higher status than her since they were owned by people.

How could someone like her who were beneath dogs possibly turn around to look in the eyes of a man who could be of noble birth?

She lowered her eyes to the flower, nervously changing her position.

"Do I make you uncomfortable, my lord? Perhaps, I should go to a corner where you won't see much of..."

She flinched, abruptly stopping when she felt the man's cold hands on the back of her neck, his hot breath fanning her nape as he asked, "Who are you?"

"Au-Aurelia Night! I live in the shade in thr marketsquare." Aurelia shuddered, a burst of sensation suddenly spiraling down her back.

"Aurelia Night." His repetition of her name caused the hair on her neck to stand on its end.

Not out of fear, but out of something she couldn't quite explain.

But she was still self-aware. Although having no idea what was going on with her, she still managed to keep her head straight.

"I really needed somewhere to hide, so I…" She stopped talking, sucking in a deep breath when the man's course hands began drawing circles on the back of her neck, sending shivers down her spine.

"How old are you, Aurelia?"

"I clocked 18 last month."

"Have you had a mate yet?"

"No, my lord."

The words had just rolled off her tongue when the man quickly spurned her around, the dim light in the room barely letting her see his face as he said calmly, "I take you as my mate!"

"What?" The question never made it out of her mouth as the man slammed his lips against hers, his hands desperately moving around her body.

As he carried her on his arms and moved to the bed, his foot met the leg of the table where the lantern was on, sending it to the floor where it shattered.

Hence, he never saw the color of the woman's hair as her shawl fell.

That night, he fell asleep after taking her several times, hugging her tightly, yet so gently.

But when he woke up the next morning, the woman he saw beside him felt so wrong.

He quickly unwrapped his arms around her and sat up crankily.

"Have you always been here?"

The woman sat up as well, lowering her eyes to the floor sadly, "You took me several times last night, my lord."

Axton Wolfe was silent for a moment before he turned and pulled off the tunic covering her bare body.

His eyes fell on a spot near her cervix. He could've sworn there was a birthmark there.

But he said nothing and got off the bed to put on his clothes.

"You came into my room last night without my approval."

She was taken aback by his sudden words.

"My lord, I…" No idea how to defend herself, she stuttered in reply before he cut her off.

"Tell your father I will take responsibility."

Then he left the room, not turning back to see the sly smile that instantly spread across her face.

Meanwhile, Aurelia grimaced slightly with every step she took. However, she was beaming.

She had woken up on time and left the room while everyone else was still sleeping. The motel workers hadn't paid her much attention and even helped her pack the foods.

Now all she had to do was to think of a way to apologize to Lydia for letting her starving. The poor girl.

But looking at the food, she shook Lydia's angry face out of her mind.

Lydia loved food. Once she saw just how much she had brought, she'd definitely buy her story about falling asleep while waiting for the motel to clear out.

"I know you wish to kill me, but see just how…" She was saying, a bright smile on her face as she walked into the shade until she raised her eyes to see the familiar faces of the warriors who had chased her around last night.
