Chapter 7

"Quick, call him and ask when he's coming back!"

I pulled out my phone with a stony expression. Sure enough, my husband's line was unreachable.

My mother-in-law snatched the phone in disbelief, trying the number herself. Still no answer.

She couldn't believe it, so she picked up her own phone to call, but still couldn't get through.

Time ticked by, second by second.

The countdown chimed.

My mother-in-law was like a cat on a hot tin roof, pacing back and forth in the room. "What's going on with this child? He's still not home at this hour!"

Suddenly, my phone rang. My mother-in-law snatched it away, putting it on speaker. An anxious voice came through: "Sis, sorry to bother you, but why can't we reach Mr. Frost? The company directors need to speak with him urgently!"

My mother-in-law could barely stand. I quickly took the phone and exchanged a few polite words before hanging up.

Her face was pale as she clutched her chest. "No, no, nothing could have happened, right?"
