The village of Sora no Kaze trembled under the assault as Taro's army surged toward its heart—the chamber housing the sacred elemental orb. Flames and smoke marred the evening sky, and the cries of villagers echoed as defenders scrambled to protect their home.
Team 9 had been stationed at the southern gate, tasked with holding back the advancing soldiers. The gate shuddered under the relentless battering of Taro's forces. Haruto's fiery weapons blazed brightly in the chaos: a sword of flame in one hand and a phoenix-shaped fire roaring to life in the other. Ayame summoned a shimmering water dragon that swept through the ranks of rogue soldiers, scattering them like leaves in a storm.
"We're holding them, but not for long!" Haruto shouted, sweat streaking his face as his phoenix dove through the enemy lines, engulfing dozens in flames.
Ayame's voice was calm but strained. "We need reinforcements. There's too many of them!" Her dragon surged forward, its watery coils smashing soldiers aside.
Kaito stood near them, his Kazeryoku gusts disrupting enemy formations and knocking soldiers off their feet. Yet, despite his efforts, a gnawing frustration grew within him. Compared to Haruto's fiery onslaught or Ayame's commanding dragon, his wind attacks felt lacking in impact.
"We can't let them break through!" Kaito called out, sending another powerful gust that momentarily stalled the enemy's advance. His eyes darted toward the square in the distance. "We need to regroup!"
Satoshi, controlling a towering earth golem that smashed rogue soldiers aside with massive fists, nodded. "Fall back to the square! We'll make our stand there."
The group retreated in unison, maintaining their formation as they moved. The southern gate groaned and collapsed behind them, but they had bought the villagers enough time to evacuate deeper into the village.
As they reached the square, Taro emerged from the shadows, his dark aura palpable. His sinister grin widened as he watched Team 9 and Satoshi prepare to defend the orb.
"You're persistent, I'll give you that," Taro said, his voice dripping with mockery. "But this ends now."
He raised his blade, and a wave of dark energy surged toward them. Satoshi's golem stepped in, absorbing the brunt of the attack, but cracks spread across its surface.
"Kaito, Haruto, Ayame—handle the soldiers! I'll take care of Taro!" Satoshi commanded, directing his golem to block another strike from Taro.
Kaito's eyes narrowed. "No," he said firmly. "I'll fight Taro. You stay back."
Satoshi hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "You're not ready to face him alone, Kaito."
"I have to," Kaito replied, determination in his voice. "I won't let him threaten our village any longer. I need to do this."
With that, Kaito stepped forward, facing Taro with resolve. Taro's mocking grin widened. "So, the little wind user thinks he can stop me?" He raised his blade, preparing for another strike.
Kaito's heart pounded as Taro advanced. Each gust of wind he sent out struggled to keep the dark warrior at bay. His attacks lacked the force they needed, and with every strike, Kaito was pushed back, unable to make a significant impact.
"You're nothing but a child playing with breezes," Taro sneered, pressing his advantage. "Show me what you're really made of!"
Frustration surged within him. "I can do more than this," Kaito thought, gritting his teeth. He closed his eyes, focusing on the sensation of the wind swirling around him. Focus... compress it... let it cut, let it pierce...
The air around him began to hum with energy as he visualized a spiraling vortex, concentrating the wind into a single, sharp point. The wind gathered faster, more forceful with every breath, until it was ready.
With a surge of power, Kaito thrust his hand forward. "Reppū Shōkyū!" (The Gale Rising Sphere)
A concentrated sphere of spiraling wind shot out, hitting Taro square in the chest. The sheer force of the attack sent him flying backward, crashing into a wall. The surrounding rogue soldiers froze, stunned by the display of power.
Haruto grinned, flames flickering around him. "That's what I'm talking about, Kaito!"
Ayame smiled, her dragon circling protectively around her. "Well done!"
Taro's smirk faltered, but only for a moment. He pushed himself up from the rubble, his eyes burning with fury. "Not bad, boy. You've got potential. But you're still far from winning."
With a wave of his hand, Taro signaled his soldiers to renew their attack. "It's not over yet. This is just the beginning."
The rogue soldiers surged forward again, their dark auras growing stronger as Taro rallied them. Kaito felt his legs tremble from exhaustion, his new technique having drained him significantly. But he couldn't stop now. The battle raged on, and Taro wasn't about to retreat.
Satoshi's voice rang out, commanding his golem to step forward again. "Everyone, stay strong! We're not giving up this fight!"
Kaito staggered to his feet, his wind power swirling around him once more. "I won't let him win," he muttered to himself.
Haruto's fiery weapons blazed brighter than ever as he charged back into the fray, and Ayame's water dragon roared to life again, crashing through the enemy lines. They were all in this together, fighting for their home, for the orb, and for the future of their village.
As the battle continued to rage around them, Kaito knew that the war was far from over. The real struggle had only just begun.
