Cultivation Technique: Echoes of the Chasm

"A full hand can never receive more than what it can hold, only an empty hand may receive what the world has to offer."

— Echoes of the Chasm [1:1]

--

Origins and Discovery:

The Echoes of the Chasm was a cultivation technique of unknown authorship, discovered deep within the "Tombs of the Whispering Wind" on the planet Radiance.

Regarded as the Lowest among the top-tier techniques (borderline between Grand and Elite) despite its immense potential.

Echoes of the Chasm was notoriously difficult to comprehend and master. Its reliance on the enigmatic echoes of 'twelve aquatic creatures' makes it highly unpredictable and demanding, even for prodigies.

The tome detailing the technique was found submerged in a vast, hidden pool of water, its pages seemingly impervious to time.

Those who first uncovered it reported hearing thirteen distinct echoes of creatures reverberating through the chamber, a phenomenon that has never been replicated.

The technique itself is structured around The Twelve Water related creatures that lived or traverse the deep seas, categorized into four known groups, with a final enigmatic entity remaining beyond comprehension.

These aspects are believed to be inspired by the creatures of the deep seas, both real and mythical, drawn from the depths of history and legend.

--

Strengths:

- Versatile and adaptable, capable of both righteous and demonic applications.

- Grants unique abilities tied to the water element and aquatic creatures.

- Scales exceptionally well with the cultivator's understanding and creativity.

- Moral ambiguous as the technique itself is neutral, and its use reflects the cultivator's intentions.

--

Weaknesses:

- Requires an almost intuitive understanding about the creatures.

- High risk of Qi deviation or corruption.

- Progress is slow and often fraught with setbacks.

- Advancing through the stages of the technique may trigger unique tribulations, such as facing spectral manifestations of the creatures or enduring the crushing pressure of the depths.

--

Reputation:

While respected for its power, Echoes of the Chasm is often seen as a "cursed" technique, as few have ever mastered it fully.

Many have mastered up to 12 out of 13 techniques, apart from the Cataclysmic Sentinel; Zhen Jyu,{Kyorin's name in his first life}.

However, as the Sentinel comprehended it during his end, nothing much is known apart from the words he said during his demise.

"What a pity, my hands are full. If only I could have known this early, there would have been no desire left."

— Zhen Jyu

The Twelve Echoes:

The echoes heard by the discovered were tied to the twelve aquatic creatures that form the core of the technique.

"Were these echoes the voices of the creatures themselves, or a warning from the depths?"

— Philosopher Kun Fan

The twelve creatures were divided into four known groups, each representing a different aspect of the abyss.

As for the additional aspect, it was a mysterious one, regarded as the forbidden fifth group where there was an echoless one, singular, revered as the transcendent existence.

Techniques for Group 1:

# Echo of Hunt: Unceasing Chase

- Based of The Great White Shark

"To bleed is to be marked, to falter is to be claimed. The hunter does not rest, nor does it forgive."

— Jaws of the Abyss [3:2]

"Teeth carved from the abyss, eyes that see through the dark—the tide shifts, the current turns, and the hunt begins."

— Jaws of the Abyss [3:5]

"The predator does not chase; it waits for the sea to deliver. The moment you falter, the maw closes."

— Jaws of the Abyss [3:8]

A/N: In the original cultivation technique the point below such as Description, Additional Applications and Limitations are not mentioned, the verse above are the only clue to the Marital arts written in the cultivation Technique.

- Description:

A relentless predator, drawn to even the faintest scent of weakness. Its jade-like scales shimmer in the abyss, reflecting only the cold, predatory intelligence of a hunter that never stops.

With each wound its prey suffers, the Jingyu (Shark) grows more frenzied, its speed and lethality reaching terrifying heights.

- Advanced Application:

1) Crimson Requiem – Feeds on the life force of bleeding prey, regenerating wounds mid-hunt, user gets motivated to hunt by the smell of blood.

2) Horizon Breaker – While in water, the user vanishes into the currents, striking from unpredictable angles at impossible speeds.

- Limitations:

1) Overcommitted Charge: Struggles to change direction mid-attack.

2) Frenzy Backlash: If denied a kill, prolonged bloodlust weakens the focus.

3) Surface Weakness: Weak in Surface compare to when the user is around bodies of water.

# Echo of Constrict: The Thousand-Grasping Abyss

- Based of The Kraken

"When the void stirs, limbs countless emerge. To struggle is to be bound, to flee is to be dragged below."

— Abyssal Verses [2:4]

"No prayer reaches where the tentacles grasp. No light shines where the maw opens. The deep calls, and none refuse its hunger."

— Abyssal Verses [2:6]

"Flesh is but water to the drowning beast; the abyss does not hunt—it simply swallows."

— Abyssal Verses [2:9]

- Description:

An abyssal nightmare with writhing, serpentine limbs that coil through the depths, ensnaring all who trespass.

Each tentacle acts with independent intelligence, constricting and dragging prey into its endless darkness. Its bioluminescence lures victims into its reach, where the abyss itself seems to devour all light and hope.

- Advanced Application:

1) Abyssal Undertow – Creates an inescapable vortex that pulls enemies into the crushing depths.

2) Grasp of the Void – Tentacles extend beyond physical space, phasing through barriers and striking from unseen angles.

- Limitations:

1) Surface Vulnerability: Weaker when fully exposed above water.

2) Fragmented Awareness: Controlling too many limbs at once slows reaction time.

3)Lure Backfire: Bioluminescence can be used against it, revealing its location.

# Echo of the Abyssal Sovereign: Hydro Sovereign

- Based on the Leviathan

"Beneath the waves, the Sovereign stirs. Its breath is the storm, its wake the end of worlds."

— Abyssal Sovereignty [4:2]

"The oceans bow to its will. The depths tremble at its roar, and all who dare to challenge are swallowed by its tide."

— Abyssal Sovereignty [4:5]

"To hear the Sovereign's call is to know the weight of the ocean upon your chest—unforgiving and eternal."

— Abyssal Sovereignty [4:7]

- Description:

The user conjures towering tidal waves that surge from the deepest oceanic trenches, capable of sweeping entire fleets to their doom.

Alternatively, the technique can create crushing depths, where the weight of the ocean itself becomes a weapon, compressing all in its wake.

Water becomes both a servant and a judge, moving with unnatural force, submerging all beneath its overwhelming tide.

- Advanced Application:

1) Leviathan's Wake – Calls forth an immense tsunami, submerging everything in its path under the weight of a vast, unrelenting ocean.

2) Pressure Difference – Manipulates the water's pressure to implode enemies within moments, reducing them to nothing more than crushed remnants under the weight of the deep.

Limitations:

1) Oceanic Tether: The Leviathan's power wanes the further it is from the ocean, and its strength diminishes when land-bound.

2) Pressure Paradox: The overwhelming force of the crushing depths strains the user's body, threatening internal damage the longer the technique is maintained.

3) Ecological Cost: Summoning tidal waves and manipulating the sea wreaks havoc on the local ecosystem, causing imbalances that result in Karmic backlash.

- Group 2: The Enchanters: Creatures that embody mystery, allure, and manipulation. Techniques in this group focus on deception and mental influence.

Techniques for Group 2:

# Echo of Bewitching: Celestial Hymn

-Based on the Sirens.

"Her voice breaks the stillness of the abyss, for in her song, the world trembles and the soul unravels."

— Hymn of the Deep [5:1]

"The waves are but a whisper, the winds but a breath; yet it is her song that calls you to the abyss."

— Hymn of the Deep [5:3]

"To hear her is to be lost; to resist her is to forfeit all meaning. For in her call lies your final fate."

— Hymn of the Deep [5:6]

- Description:

The haunting allure of the sea, drawing all who hear its call into an irresistible trance. The user channels the mystical power of the Siren's voice, weaving illusions that captivate or drive listeners into madness.

With each note, the boundaries of reality blur, and the listener is lured to the edge of reality and illusion.

The power of the Siren's song can both enchant and ensnare, twisting perception to the user's will, leaving their victims unable to distinguish between illusion and truth.

- Advanced Application:

1) Call of the Abyss – A mesmerizing melody that draws enemies toward the user, rendering them vulnerable to further manipulation.

2) Song of Madness – A haunting aria that shatters the mind, leaving those who hear it in a state of utter madness.

- Limitations:

1) Sound Bound: The technique loses power in environments where sound cannot travel or is drowned out by other forces. Or simply the target is deaf.

2) Mental Drain: The longer the song is maintained, the more taxing it becomes on the user's own mind, threatening self-induced delirium.

3) Unpredictable Influence: The effects of the song can sometimes backfire, with those under its influence breaking free or becoming immune to its allure.

# Echo of Dissipation: Lure

-Based on luminous Jellyfish

"Its light deceives, its drift entices—drawn to it, you shall be lost in the endless sea of illusion."

— The Abyssal Mirage [6:1]

"It floats without a sound, a flicker in the void, pulling those who seek to gaze into the depths."

— The Abyssal Mirage [6:3]

"Where the light beckons, darkness follows—step not closer, for the glow is but the shadow of your own undoing."

— The Abyssal Mirage [6:5]

- Description:

Creates an ethereal glow that lures the curious and the brave into its trap. The user manipulates the mesmerizing light of the jellyfish, using it to hypnotize and control those who gaze upon it.

The glow confuses the senses, drawing the weak-willed deeper into its grasp, where they are left vulnerable to the user's manipulations.

The technique allows the user to create an environment of tranquility and deception, where the line between dream and nightmare is blurred, leading enemies straight into the jaws of danger.

- Advanced Application:

1) Hypnotic Glow – Projects a radiant light that mesmerizes all who gaze upon it, rendering them unable to resist the user's commands.

2) Tentacle of the Deep – Forms tendrils of energy that ensnare and drag enemies into the abyss, where their fate is sealed.

- Limitations:

1) Environment: The glow loses its power in whiteouts or when surrounded by counteracting forces that suppress light.

2) Weakness to Willpower: Strong-willed individuals can resist the effects, breaking free from the illusion.

3) Energy Drain: Maintaining the hypnotic glow consumes a significant amount of energy, weakening the user over time.

# Echo of Greed: Drowned Heart

- Based on the Pearl Oyster Spirit

"Within its shell lies no treasure, only the hollow cry of desire. To look is to long; to claim is to perish."

— Tales from the Depths [7:2]

"A single pearl, a fleeting desire—its beauty is the snare, and its promise the doom of those who dare to reach."

— Tales from the Depths [7:4]

"It guards the ocean's secrets, hiding them beneath layers of longing. To open is to find nothing, yet everything is lost."

— Tales from the Depths [7:7]

- Description:

Conjures a pearl of desire which creates illusions and evokes emotions of longing through its radiant glow.

With each flicker of the oyster's glow, they shape perceptions, alter desires, and control the hearts of those who gaze upon its brilliance.

The pearl's essence allows the user to manifest illusions that seem as real as life itself, controlling the minds of others with subtle, irresistible allure.

- Advanced Application:

1) Illusory Veil – Creates a barrier of light that distorts reality, hiding the user's true form or actions from others.

2) Pearl of Desire – Summons a pearl that invokes deep emotional responses in those who see it, causing them to act according to the user's will.

- Limitations:

1) Illusion Fragility: The illusions created are only as strong as the belief in them—once questioned, they begin to unravel.

2) Emotional Overload: If used by a fragile-willed person, using the pearl's emotional power for too long risks overwhelming both the user and the target, causing mental instability.

3) Visual Weakness: The technique loses power in environments that obscure sight or where light cannot shine clearly. Or simply blinds are not affected by it.

- Group 3: The Guardians: Creatures that embody protection, resilience, and balance. Techniques in this group focus on defense and healing.

Techniques for Group 3:

# Echo of the Bastion: Aegis of Unyielding

- Based on the Turtle Dragon "Bixi"

"Upon its back, the weight of mountains; within its shell, the silence of eternity."

— Depth Chronicles [9:1]

"To stand before Bixi is to stand before Sumeru itself. Unyielding. Everlasting."

— Depth Chronicles [8:5]

"Even the storm may rage, but the turtle remains. The dragon watches, waiting for the day it must rise."

— Depth Chronicles [8:9]

Description:

Grants the user immense resilience and unwavering stability. This technique forms an impervious defense, embodying the unshakable force of the dragon-turtle.

The user's body becomes a fortress, their movements slow yet deliberate, each step as steady as the shifting of continents.

With its divine protection, barriers can be conjured from the very fabric of the earth, standing firm against even the most violent assaults. The weight of mountains and the patience of time converge, making the user an immovable guardian.

- Advanced Application:

1) Titan's Aegis – Creates an unbreakable shield of energy, absorbing and dispersing even the strongest attacks.

2) Pillars of Bixi – Summons stone monoliths from the ground, serving as barriers or crushing foes under their immense weight.

- Limitations:

1) Immobility: The power of Bixi favors endurance over speed, making the user slower in battle.

2) Energy Consumption: Sustaining defenses against continuous attacks can wear down the user's strength.

3) Fixed Focus: While guarding one position, the user may be vulnerable to rapid, unpredictable attacks from multiple directions.

# Echo of the Su: Tranquil Samsara

- Based on the Crane-Fish "He Yu"

"Where water flows, the crane watches. Where the sky bends, the fish swims. Between stillness and motion lies balance."

— Harmonic Sutras [9:2]

"With one step, it treads the air. With one dive, it vanishes into the abyss. The unseen guardian, always watching."

— Harmonic Sutras [9:6]

"Neither sky nor sea can claim it. It moves between realms, guiding the lost with its silent grace."

— Harmonic Sutras [9:10]

- Description:

Tranquil Samsara embodies the perfect balance between stillness and fluidity, granting the user both the patience of the watchful crane and the adaptability of the swift-moving fish.

This technique enhances awareness, allowing the user to anticipate threats and respond with seamless precision.

By channeling the Crane-Fish's essence, the user can shift effortlessly between offense and defense, maintaining harmony in battle. Their presence becomes a guiding force, stabilizing allies while disrupting enemies.

- Advanced Application:

1) Flowing Vigilance – Heightens the user's awareness, allowing them to counter attacks with effortless grace.

2) Ripple Step – Grants the ability to move across water as though walking on solid ground, avoiding limitations of terrain.

- Limitations:

1) Requires Awareness: The user must maintain mental clarity; distractions can weaken their ability to react fluidly.

2) Fragile Strength: While evasive and balanced, this technique does not provide overwhelming brute force.

3) Momentary Vulnerability: Perfect balance requires continuous movement—if caught off guard, the user can struggle to recover.

# Echo of Rebirth: Fenghuang Yu's Resurgance

"From the depths, it rises anew, its song weaving currents of restoration. To see it is to know hope."

— Tides of Rebirth [10:3]

"The sea has no master, yet the phoenix tames the storm. Its wings bring both fury and peace."

— Tides of Rebirth [10:7]

"Flames burn, but the tide cleanses. It does not destroy—it transforms."

— Tides of Rebirth [10:11]

- Description:

Echo of Rebirth channels the rebirth and purification of the mythical Fenghuang Yu(Water Phoenix), allowing the user to restore body.

Waves of energy pulse outward, healing self and purging corruption, while the sheer force of its presence drives back those who seek destruction.

This technique does not simply protect—it revitalizes, turning the tide of battle in an instant. The Sea Phoenix's power manifests as both a cleansing flame and a raging tide, striking down foes.

- Advanced Application:

1) Wings of Renewal – Unleashes a wave of energy that heals allies while repelling enemies with concussive force.

2) Phoenix's Tide – Calls forth a surge of water imbued with sacred fire, engulfing and purifying all in its wake.

- Limitations:

1) Limited Healing: While capable of restoring injuries, the use is limited.

2) Draining Power: The balance of destruction and restoration requires significant energy, leaving the user fatigued.

3) Unstable Might: If not controlled, the technique's force can become indiscriminate, affecting both friend and foe.

- Group 4: The Wanderers: Creatures that embody adaptability, exploration, and transformation. Techniques in this group focus on versatility and evolution.

Techniques for Group 2:

# Echo of Evolution: Longmen's Ascent

- Based on the Carp Dragon

"A thousand falls, a thousand rises. Only the one who endures shall claim the sky."

— River Trials [11:2]

"The gate does not choose the dragon—the leap does."

— River Trials [11:5]

"To change is to grow, to grow is to ascend. The river may end, but the journey never does."

— River Trials [11:8]

- Description:

This technique embodies transformation through struggle, granting the user the ability to adapt mid-battle and overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Each hardship fuels evolution, allowing the user to refine their abilities in real-time. As the technique matures, movements become more refined, energy more potent, and attacks more decisive—until, at the peak, the carp becomes the dragon.

With every clash, the user's body and techniques sharpen, culminating in a final leap—an explosive surge of power that momentarily transcends all previous limitations.

- Advanced Application:

1) Dragon Gate Surge – Stores momentum from received attacks, converting it into an overwhelming counterattack.

2) Endless Current – Improves reflexes and adaptability with each exchange, making the user harder to predict or counter.

- Limitations:

1) Delayed Growth: Power is built gradually; without prolonged engagement, full potential cannot be reached.

2) Risk of Overload: Pushing beyond natural limits too quickly can cause physical strain or instability.

3) Uncertain Threshold: The "leap" to full power is unpredictable, requiring the right conditions to trigger.

# Echo of Wisdom: Call of the Depths

- Based on the Octopus Sage (Zhangyu Xian)

"No form is permanent, no path absolute. To live is to change, to thrive is to master change."

— Verses of the Drifting Sage [12:1]

"In the deep, the wise do not fight the currents—they become them."

— Verses of the Drifting Sage [12:3]

"Many limbs, many minds. Each moment a choice, each movement a possibility."

— Verses of the Drifting Sage [12:9]

- Description:

Grants unparalleled adaptability, allowing the user to fluidly shift between forms, techniques, and tactics. This technique enables rapid problem-solving in battle, as the user instinctively alters their approach based on immediate threats.

Like the elusive octopus, they can change their 'shape'—mimicking fighting styles, altering movement patterns, or even temporarily shifting their physical composition to escape danger.

Each limb (or action) operates semi-independently, allowing for unpredictable, multi-directional attacks.

- Advanced Application:

1) Formless Flow – Allows the user to rapidly alter their stance, style, or physical composition, countering opponents with unpredictable shifts.

2) Many-Limbed Strike – The user executes simultaneous attacks from multiple angles, overwhelming opponents with complex patterns.

- Limitations:

1) Mental Strain: Processing multiple approaches at once can lead to cognitive overload.

2) Energy Instability: Rapid transformations burn stamina at an accelerated rate.

3) No True Form: Lacks a singular "ultimate" state—versatility comes at the cost of specialization.

# Echo of the Traveler: Boundless Horizon

- Based on the Kunpeng

"From the ocean's abyss to the sky's peak—it knows no master but its own will."

— Skyward Chronicles [13:5]

"A fish in the depths, a bird in the clouds. No cage can hold what does not belong to one world."

— Skyward Chronicles [13:7]

"The greatest freedom is motion without end."

— Skyward Chronicles [13:10]

- Description:

Limitless movement, allowing the user to transcend normal constraints of speed, distance, and elevation. Whether gliding across oceans, soaring through the skies, or vanishing from reach, this technique defies boundaries.

By embracing the Kunpeng's nature, the user shifts effortlessly between aquatic and aerial combat, manipulating wind and water currents to dictate the battlefield. Speed is not just movement—it is liberation.

- Advanced Application:

1) Skyborne Dive – Converts downward motion into an accelerating force, striking with the impact of a descending meteor.

2) Ocean's Ascent – Momentarily nullifies gravity, allowing the user to glide through air or water as though weightless.

- Limitations:

1) Environmental Dependence: Lacks full effectiveness in enclosed or static environments.

2) High-Speed Risks: Moving at extreme velocities leaves little room for error—one miscalculation can be disastrous.

3) Momentum Lock: Once committed to a motion, stopping or reversing direction requires effort and energy.

The fifth group: The Ultimate Intent

"Guixu's Decree"

— Echoes of the Chasm [14:4]

"To hold what is formless is to become formless. To wield what is boundless is to be devoured by the boundlessness itself."

— Echoes of the Chasm [14:9]

"That which seeks to grasp the void will find its fingers slip through nothing. The decree is not a burden to be held, but a truth to be realized. Only the hand that lets go may wield what was never meant to be possessed."

— Echoes of the Chasm [14:14]

- Description:

The decree does not grant power—it unmakes the self, carving the wielder into a vessel of Guixu's will.

Its bearer gains access to all abilities of Guixu, but only in an incomplete, unstable form, forever trapped at an unknown fraction of its true potential.

The void may/ may not grant omnipotence—only what the vessel can endure before breaking.

- Advanced Application:

none

- Limitations:

1) Fragmented Power: The granted abilities fluctuate in strength, never exceeding an unknown limit. Power granted: [n/???]

2) Erosion of Self: The decree does not empower—it consumes. The longer one wields it, the more they lose of themselves, their essence returning back to the void.

3) Unknowable Burden: The wielder cannot perceive the true scale of Guixu's power. What they hold is merely a sliver, yet even a fraction is enough to unravel them.

4) The Inevitable Reclamation: Guixu does not grant—it lends. And what is borrowed must one day return to the void.
