The battle against the Devourer was over.
But the Rift wasn't done with them yet.
The air around Ethan crackled as his golden-shadow aura flickered, stabilizing from the aftermath of his last attack. He stood in the ruins of the abyssal battlefield, surrounded by the remnants of the shattered Rift. For the first time since entering the Rift's Core—since facing the Devourer—everything was silent.
Too silent.
The others slowly regrouped around him.
Selene still held her spear, her golden energy pulsing weakly. She had pushed herself past her limit protecting Ethan, but even now, she refused to show weakness. Orion stood beside her, rifle lowered but still tense. Kieran was breathing hard, scanning the distortions in the air with narrowed eyes.
Mia flipped her dagger in her hand, trying to shake off the tension. "Tell me we're done here."
Nobody answered.
Because they all felt it.
Something was still watching.
