chapter 7 The Banquet (2)

INSIDE THE BANQUET HALL

Inside the banquet hall, the chattering and laughter of the guests could be heard and the orchestral music playing in the background. The place was filled up with guests, who were dressed in expensive clothes. It was clear that they came to show off.

Emily, her brother Jacob and their mother were all sitting down, their eyes on the prince who was at the entrance of the hall. Emily was dressed in a red beautifully decorated gown. It was a long sleeve dress with a v shape style at the top.From her shoulders to her waists, the dress was fitted, from her waist downward it was made to be loose.

 Her silky hair was tied up in a bun, with two curled ones left to fall at the side of her, she wore a gold necklace and earrings. Her mother Rachel dressed in green, with her hair tied up, she was also wearing gold jewellery.

"Mother," Emily said, taking a shaky sip of her drink, "are you sure the prince will choose me?"

Rachel offered a reassuring look. "Your father asked you to trust him. I'm certain he'll find a way."

A moment later, Emily's attention caught on a tall, fair-skinned young woman entering the hall. "Mother, look—isn't that the princess of the Blood Moon Pack?" she asked through clenched teeth.

The princess wore a captivating-royal blue gown with silver jewelry that seemed to shimmer with an ethereal glow. Her long, silky hair was pulled back with structured curls into an elegant updo, and hazel eyes gleamed with a strange sense of power, distant, though she seemed to observe everyone curiously-yet distantly.

Jacob followed his sister's directive, turning his head to catch a glimpse. His heart skipped a beat. She was an ethereal beauty that left him breathless. His mouth went slack for a moment as the sight of her seemed to spark a fire he couldn't explain.

"Mother, I don't like her," Emily murmured, recoiling her disgusted expression at the princess.

"Something about her just... reeks of slyness and duplicity."

Jacob's protective instincts suddenly flared. He growled at his sister under his breath, "Grrrr."

Emily flinched, staring at him, shock flashing across her face. "What is wrong with you?" she muttered, now both startled and irritated.

Jacob turned fiercely, his hands grasping her wrist tightly. "I don't want you saying anything about her again, understand?" he hissed, barely containing a growl in his voice.

Emily's breath caught, her anger flaring, but she didn't expect her brother to act so... violently.

"Jacob..." Her voice wavered, a mix of fear and confusion catching in her throat.

Before the situation could escalate further, their mother intervened.

"What was that all about?!" Rachel's voice, sharp as a whip, caused Jacob to recoil. He let go and closed his eyes in apology, trying to shake off his aggression.

"I'm sorry, I need some fresh air," Jacob muttered, standing abruptly, his departure swift and cold. The tension in the air hung thick, leaving only discomfort.

"What was that about?" Emily repeated, shock evident in her tone. "I've never seen him act like that."

Rachel's voice softened, but a hint of concern leaked through her calm exterior. "It's the pressure, Emily. Jacob's just feeling overwhelmed by tonight's importance, we'll talk later."

"Can you believe it?" Emily flared, still rattled by this sudden change in her brother's composure. "Maybe it's because of that princess!"

"Enough," Rachel whispered, shushing Emily, gesturing to her lips. "Keep quiet about that. It's not worth it."

Rachel rubbed her wrist where Jacob had manhandled her earlier, trying to calm her mind. "Why doesn't the alpha king arrive already?" She mumbled, impatience creeping in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Calista then caught her breath in surprise when she noticed Prince Ezekiel bow slightly toward the two strangers. "Welcome, King Alexander and Prince Ethan," he said politely, though a flicker of unease crossed his face. Recognizing the short temper of the demon king, Calista and Aurora bowed as well, each fighting the urge to recoil under King Alexander's cold stare
Stepping farther into the hall, Calista marveled at its grandeur: gilded chandeliers, sweeping staircases adorned with flowers, and balconies overlooking endless, rolling hills. Every corner seemed designed to impress.
Prince Ezekiel's eyes immediately found hers, his sharp features devoid of any pretension.
The gentleman smiled at her " I am prince Ezekiel and you are?" He asked enthusiastically.
 " I am Cal and this is… Aaron" she answered looking at Aurora, who looked extremely nervous now, they paid respect to him, by bowing to him.
 Aurora's face has turned crimson, she can't believe that she finally got to meet the man who she has always admired.
"It's an honour to meet you, my prince" Aurora said in a high pitch, that Calista had to unconsciously rub her ear.
" welcome king Alexander and prince Ethan" prince Ezekiel politely greeted while bowing slightly to king Alexander.
 Calista couldn't help but to look around the banquet hall, it was massive. The chandelier was made from gold, with sweeping staircases that led up the hall which were also made of gold and decorated with flowers, there were numerous balconies overlooking the rolling hills, the walls were decorated with gold and white, the hall was arranged in rectangular rows.
They continued onward, each step taking them deeper into the lavish halls of the Alpha King's palace, and unknowingly closer to the very forces that could shatter their disguises and their world.
Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the room. One by one, the wolves in the banquet hall began to pick up on the strange vibe, their wolfish instincts awakening instinctually. "What's happening?" Aurora whispered in confusion, her grip tightening on Calista's arm.
"What's going on..." Calista muttered to herself, carefully maneuvering through the crowd to investigate. It didn't take long to see the two ominous men again, now sitting comfortably in an alcove as the room shifted in hostility around them.
The growls surged, and it was then she realized... the pack wolves were growling at King Alexander and Prince Ethan. Her heart sank as she noticed the deadly force surrounding these two men who seemed to relish the reaction.
"Chill," the king said sardonically, swirling wine in his glass. " You don't have anyone mistaking you for a rabid dog" His eyes were indifferent to the madness happening around him.
