chapter 33 Escape, Bethrothal and Political unrest

(Meanwhile in the Crescent moon pack)

The sky wept in torrents, rain slashing against the earth like silver daggers. Dark clouds loomed, devouring the moon's glow.

A lone figure with a hood on, stood in the storm, drenched, her breath shaky.

She bit her lower lips, as her blue eyes held uncertainty, her hands slightly shaking, her knuckles white, her chest tightened with doubt. Was this the right decision? Was this even the right time?.

" You have to right what you wronged, she fell into this mess because of me" the word echoed in her mind, sending a painful chill down her spine " so i have to save her".

Her blue eyes flickered with conviction, as she moved swiftly through the rain, blending into the shadows. The downpour masked her scent, washing away any lingering traces of her presence. She just has to escape undetected by the guards.

She saw a moving carriage, which was heading out of the Crescent moon pack, she swiftly jumped onto it, covering herself with the debris.

"Halt" the voice of a guard echoed in the rain. Aurora´s heart hammered in her chest " calm down" she muttered to herself. If the guards hear her heartbeat, she is done for.

After what seemed like eternity to Aurora, the cart began to move again, she let out a sigh of relief. A smile tugged on her lips " I finally made it out".

" Wait for me Calista, I am coming to save you".

( in the Alphas Palace)

The steady rhythm of the rain echoed through the empty corridors

A lone figure could be seen, staring blankly at the raining sky, his thoughts travelling far. His shoulders slumped, as different thoughts crawled at the back of his mind.

"Please come in" a maids voice disrupted him from his thoughts.

He turned around, his lifeless eyes met with her hazel one.

"Princess Ava" prince Ezekiel called out of courtesy.

"Prince Ezekiel" she replied back in the same tone.

" please, have a seat"

They both sat down. Silence clouding the room like a blanket.

"I…." They both started at the same time. " You first," Ezekiel said.

Ava pushed back strands of her damp hair from her forehead " This betrothal.." her calm voice began " it won't work" her eyes gauging his reaction.

But there was no emotion in his face " i know you have someone whom you want to rule beside you as your luna" her voice sounding a little impatient " and so do i, i have someone i want to spend the rest of my life with" she said, her voice sounding a little shaky.

Ezekiel pulsed his lips into a thin line " i shouldn't be the one, to hear this Ava" his voice cold and devoid of emotion.

" I am telling you so we can work something out" her knuckles white.

" work something out? I have no choice, Ava. you are the only option i have now" his jaw clenched. " I won't marry Emily".

A sardonic laugh escaped from Ava lips " do you take me for a fool, Ezekiel?" her hazel eyes piercing through him " I have known you for a long time, you aren't someone who gives up easily" she hissed.

Ezekiel turned away " I don't have the power to give you what you want" he said, his voice sounding bland.

Ava stood up, walking towards the window " let's pretend, we are playing their game" her voice calm and elegant " meanwhile, we plan how we are going to escape their gasps" her voice sounding cold at the end.

Ezekiel walked towards her, his eyes lingering outside the window " Fine we play to their game" his voice slow and deliberate " but this isn't like you Ava" he said, his voice turning into a threat.

Ezekiel's eyes bored into hers, but she quickly looked elsewhere " you are the type who claws her way to the top. The type who hungers for power, so why would I believe you could love someone more than power?" he questioned.

Ava´s breath caught. She turned away, staring at the window.

She couldn't bring herself to tell him, she had found her mate, his beta, and she was rejected by him.

The silence was so thick, that a knife could slice through it. " I guess we don't have a deal," he said, heading towards the door.

His fingers brushed the door handle…." Wait" she called out, her eyes unable to hide her pain.

" I have found my mate" she swallowed hard, each word feeling like a blade against her throat.

For the first time that night, a flicker of surprise crossed Ezekiel´s face " I guess we have a deal now" he didn´t spare her a second glance before walking out of the room.

Ava´s eyes burned with revenge and conviction, she hasn't accepted his rejection yet " i vow Jacob, i will drive you crazy, I will make you wish, you didn't do what you did".

(in the Kings hall)

Alpha Caleb sat on his throne, a look of displeased contorting his face.

Beta Mateo's eyes held fear as he delivered the message " The messenger from the warlock realm, said his master has ordered that they will not hasten the plan" his hands shaking from the Alpha´s aura.

" What do they take me for?" Alpha Caleb slammed the table, sending debris flying here and there.

" Did he say the reason behind the decision?" Alpha Caleb asked after regaining his composure.

" No he didn't".

" Do you want us to seek allegiance with the necromancers?" Beta Mateo asked, sounding a little bit hesitant.

Alpha Caleb glared at him " Necromancers?" his voice echoed, his aura spilling out in fury, rendering all the werewolves to their knees, as they whimpered in pain " did you just say Necromancers?".

" I am sorry Alpha, I was only suggesting…. Since you wanted to speed up the plan" he stuttered, cold sweat dripping from his face.

" I am so disappointed in you Mateo, Never mention that name again, you think you can make a deal with them and not end up shooting your own feet?" Alpha Caleb spit out in fury.

" forgive me Alpha" his plea fell on deaf ears, as Alpha Caleb stormed out.

His eyes lingered on the door, where the Alpha stormed out, something sinister flickered in his eyes. " I cannot believe you will humiliate me to this extent" he mumbles under his breath, his knuckles turned white.
