Unwanted Letter

The arrival of their son brought an overwhelming sense of joy to Alexander and Mia's lives. The Steele estate, once a fortress of fear and strategy, now hummed with the gentle sounds of a newborn. Late-night feedings, whispered conversations, and the baby's soft coos became the new rhythm of their days. Yet, as with any peace, the shadows of the past were never far behind.

Mia's recovery was slow but steady, her days filled with caring for their son while leaning on Alexander for support. Alexander, who once balanced global business empires and the occasional life-threatening mission, now found himself juggling diaper changes and middle-of-the-night lullabies.

"You're getting good at this," Mia teased one afternoon as Alexander expertly rocked the baby to sleep.

He smirked, his trademark confidence shining through. "I've faced assassins and boardroom battles. This is a walk in the park."

Mia laughed, the sound light and carefree—a reminder of how far they had come.

But beneath the surface, Alexander's protective instincts hadn't waned. He doubled the estate's security measures, ensuring their home remained impenetrable. The scars of Lang's betrayal and the threats to Mia's life lingered in his mind, even as he held his son close.

One crisp morning, while Alexander reviewed business reports in his study, a knock at the door interrupted him. Selena entered, her expression unusually serious.

"This came for you," she said, handing him an envelope.

Alexander frowned, noting the lack of a return address. He opened it carefully, his eyes narrowing as he read the contents.

"Did you think it was over? Your family may have found peace, but peace is fragile. Watch your back."

Alexander's jaw tightened, and he immediately pressed a button on his desk, summoning his security chief.

"Double the perimeter checks," he ordered. "I want every corner of this estate under surveillance."

Selena, reading his tension, asked, "Do you think it's someone from Lang's network?"

"Possibly," Alexander replied, his voice cold. "Or someone else who doesn't know when to stay buried."

Later that day, Mia found Alexander in the study, staring at the letter. She could see the worry etched on his face, and her heart sank.

"What's wrong?" she asked, her voice soft.

Alexander hesitated for a moment before handing her the letter.

Mia's face paled as she read it. "But Lang is gone. Who could still want to hurt us?"

"Lang's reach was vast," Alexander explained. "And power vacuums attract vultures. Someone is testing us, Mia. But I won't let anyone harm you or our son."

Mia nodded, her resolve hardening. "We've faced worse, Alexander. Whoever this is, we'll face them together."

That night, as the estate settled into quiet, a series of alarms shattered the peace. Security personnel rushed to the grounds, and Alexander was already on his feet, gun in hand.

"What's happening?" Mia asked, clutching the baby tightly.

"Stay here," Alexander ordered, his tone firm. "Selena will guard you."

He stepped into the chaos, his eyes scanning the estate's monitors. The security feed showed shadowy figures attempting to breach the outer gates.

"They're testing our defenses," Selena said, appearing at his side. "What's the plan?"

"We send a message," Alexander replied.

With precision and efficiency, his team neutralized the intruders, capturing two of them alive. Alexander interrogated them personally, his voice a low growl of controlled fury.

"Who sent you?" he demanded.

One of the captives smirked. "You think this ends with us? You'll never see it coming, Steele."

The captives revealed little else, but Alexander's instincts told him the threat was far from over. He returned to Mia, his expression grim but determined.

"We need to be ready," he said. "This isn't over."

Mia placed a hand on his arm, her touch grounding him. "We've faced so much already, Alexander. We'll get through this too."

Alexander pulled her into a gentle embrace, his mind already strategizing their next move. As he held her and their son, he vowed silently to protect his family at all costs.
