Chapter 7 – The Encounter with the Young Warrior

The sun was high in the sky when Wei Long finally left the ancient temple behind, his mind swirling with recent events. The medallion around his neck seemed to pulse faintly, as if sharing his restlessness. He knew that every answer he found only led to more questions, and the path ahead promised to be as treacherous as the battles he had already faced.

The trail he followed was narrow, flanked by dense trees forming a natural tunnel. The wind whispered through the branches, carrying secrets from the past. Wei Long kept one hand close to the hilt of his sword, his senses on constant alert. After his encounter with the men of the Black Serpent Clan, he knew his journey would attract even more enemies.

When he reached a clearing, Wei Long stopped to rest. He removed the canteen from his belt and took a sip of water, his eyes scanning the horizon for any movement. It was then that he heard faint footsteps, nearly imperceptible. He stood quickly, his hand already on his sword.

"Who's there?" he called firmly, his voice echoing through the clearing.

From behind a tree emerged a young man with a calm demeanor but a stance that betrayed training. He carried a short sword on his back and wore simple clothing, clearly designed for combat. His expression was not hostile, and he raised his hands in a gesture of peace.

"Don't worry, traveler. I am not your enemy," the young man said with a slight smile.

Wei Long narrowed his eyes, still cautious.

"Who are you?"

The young man took a step forward but kept a respectful distance.

"My name is Jian Yu. I'm a disciple of one of the martial sects that dominate this region. And you? You don't seem to be from around here."

Wei Long relaxed slightly at Jian Yu's calm tone but remained wary.

"I'm Wei Long, a traveler. I'm searching for answers about this medallion," he replied, pointing to the artifact hanging from his neck.

Jian Yu's eyes lit up with interest upon seeing the medallion. He crossed his arms, thoughtful.

"That medallion... it looks ancient. And powerful. You said you're seeking answers? Perhaps the martial sects can help you."

Wei Long frowned, intrigued.

"Martial sects? What are those? I've never heard of them."

Jian Yu seemed surprised.

"You really aren't from around here, are you? Martial sects are organizations that train warriors to master combat techniques, spiritual cultivation, and the use of ancient artifacts. They're scattered across the land, each with its own beliefs, skills, and secrets."

Wei Long crossed his arms, interested but skeptical.

"And why have I never heard of them?"

Jian Yu shrugged.

"The sects don't usually interact with the common world. They exist in their own territories, often hidden, protecting ancient and powerful knowledge. Only those who prove themselves worthy can join them."

Wei Long reflected on the young man's words. The medallion around his neck seemed to warm slightly, as if confirming he was on the right path.

"And you? Are you part of one of these sects?"

Jian Yu nodded.

"Yes. I'm a disciple of the Ascending Dragon Sect. Our goal is to achieve balance between body, mind, and spirit, as well as to protect the weak and fight those who abuse their power."

Wei Long felt a spark of curiosity grow within him.

"And these sects... could they help me understand more about this medallion?"

Jian Yu studied him for a moment, his eyes assessing Wei Long as if trying to measure his strength and determination.

"Perhaps. Some sects have ancient records that speak of artifacts like yours. And if you prove yourself worthy, you might even find masters willing to help you."

Wei Long tilted his head.

"And how does someone prove themselves worthy?"

Jian Yu smiled faintly, as if expecting the question.

"Each sect has its own tests. In my sect, newcomers must demonstrate courage, strength, and a pure heart. It's not easy, but you seem determined."

Wei Long pondered for a moment. He did not fully trust Jian Yu, but the information the young man offered seemed promising.

"And you can take me to this sect?"

Jian Yu hesitated, as if weighing the risks.

"I can, but I warn you, the journey is dangerous. Not just because of the difficult terrain but because there are enemies lurking in the shadows, always trying to destroy what we've built."

Wei Long tightened his grip on his sword's hilt, a glint of determination in his eyes.

"Danger is nothing new to me. If you can guide me, I'm willing to face whatever it takes."

Jian Yu stepped forward, extending his hand.

"Very well, Wei Long. But before we proceed, promise me one thing: don't give up, no matter what happens."

Wei Long shook the young man's hand firmly.

"I'm not one to give up."

The two set off together, traversing dense forests toward the mountains where the Ascending Dragon Sect was located. Jian Yu proved to be a skilled guide, navigating hidden trails with ease. Along the way, he explained more about the martial sects.

"There are many sects, each with its own specialty. The Flaming Phoenix Sect is known for its fire masters, while the Eternal Lotus Sect excels in healing techniques and spiritual cultivation. But there are also dark sects, like the Black Serpent Clan, which you've already encountered."

Wei Long frowned.

"Those men I fought... They were different. Brutal, but organized."

Jian Yu nodded.

"The Black Serpent Clan is known for that. They hide in the shadows, conspiring and amassing power. It's no surprise they're interested in something like your medallion."

Wei Long glanced at the medallion again, feeling its weight and significance grow with each passing moment.

As they talked, the terrain became steeper and more treacherous. Loose rocks and exposed roots tested their endurance, but Wei Long pressed on with determination. Jian Yu was impressed by the traveler's ability to handle the challenges of the journey.

"You have talent, Wei Long. Not just anyone gets this far without formal training in a sect."

Wei Long smirked slightly.

"My life has been my training."

After hours of walking, they reached a point where the air seemed lighter and the environment more serene. Jian Yu stopped and pointed to the horizon.

"There it is."

Wei Long followed Jian Yu's gaze and saw, atop a hill, a grand stone gate adorned with carvings of dragons. Behind it, majestic structures rose, almost as if they were part of the mountain itself. The emblem of the Ascending Dragon Sect gleamed atop the gate.

"This is where your next step begins," Jian Yu said seriously. "But prepare yourself, Wei Long. Entering is only the first step."

Wei Long took a deep breath, feeling the magnitude of the moment. He knew his journey was just beginning, and what awaited beyond those gates could change his destiny forever.
