No matter how massive Gamabunta's size was, his strength still only matched that of a seasoned jōnin.
Even though his body brimmed with dense senjutsu chakra, making him far stronger than the average jōnin, Jiraiya remained confident he could bring the giant toad down.
"You think you can form a contract with me? Forget it. I have no interest in becoming the summon of a weakling like you," Gamabunta declared arrogantly, his gaze filled with disdain as he looked at Jiraiya.
"Then it seems I'll just have to beat you into submission," Jiraiya replied, clenching his fists. He hadn't expected Gamabunta to be this haughty.
"Hahaha!" Gamabunta let out a derisive laugh. "You? Take me down? Keep dreaming."
"Confidence is fine," Jiraiya said with a calm smile, "but only if your strength can back it up. Otherwise, you might want to rein it in—getting knocked to the ground will hurt your pride even more."
Gamabunta's pride flared at Jiraiya's nonchalant attitude.
"Brat, I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget!" he roared, raising a massive hand and swiping at Jiraiya.
Jiraiya dodged with a flicker of his Body Flicker Technique, landing some distance away.
"Water Release: Gunshot!" Gamabunta bellowed.
The instant Jiraiya touched down, a massive water sphere shot toward him, brimming with intense chakra. The water ball was a display of overwhelming power—its sheer density made the pressure almost tangible.
In the original timeline, Gamabunta had used this technique to counter Shukaku's Wind Release: Air Bullet. Its strength was undeniable.
Even before the water bullet reached him, Jiraiya could feel its immense pressure bearing down, slowing his movements.
"What a terrifying jutsu," he muttered. "If that hits me, I'll be nothing but paste."
"Earth Style: Multiple Earth Walls!" Jiraiya slammed his hands into the ground, and five thick earthen walls shot up in succession.
"Boom!"
The water bullet shattered four of the walls before finally dissipating, but the attack had been stopped.
"Earth Style: Heavenly Avalanche!"
Jiraiya swiftly wove hand signs, and the air above Gamabunta warped. A massive slab of earth descended like a falling meteor.
"Hah! This level of attack won't scratch me!" Gamabunta scoffed as he drew the enormous sword sheathed at his side, slicing the earthen mass cleanly in half. The two halves crashed harmlessly to the ground on either side of him.
"Brat, feel the wrath of this blade!" Gamabunta roared as he leapt into the air, bringing his sword down in a powerful slash.
"Boom!"
Jiraiya barely avoided the strike, springing away as the blade gouged a deep trench into the earth, the ground trembling violently.
Gamabunta didn't let up, reversing the swing for a lightning-fast follow-up. The air howled as the blade swept toward Jiraiya, but instead of dodging, Jiraiya infused his Lightning Flame Blade with lightning chakra.
In an instant, arcs of electricity crackled along the blade's surface, lighting it with a vivid, flickering glow.
Jiraiya gripped the blade tightly and met Gamabunta's attack head-on.
"Hah! Foolish brat, trying to match me in strength?" Gamabunta sneered, believing Jiraiya's attempt was suicidal.
"Clang!"
The two blades collided with a deafening crash.
"What?!"
Gamabunta's eyes widened in disbelief. Jiraiya hadn't just blocked his attack—he hadn't even budged an inch.
Shock ran through Gamabunta as the force of the clash reverberated through his arm, leaving it slightly numb.
Even the observing Fukasaku and Shima were left speechless.
"Am I getting old, or did I just see that brat block Bunta's strike?" Shima asked, blinking in disbelief.
"Not bad for someone the Great Toad Sage took an interest in," Fukasaku said, deeply impressed.
"His physical strength is something else."
"It seems Bunta's going to suffer this time," Shima said with a chuckle, realizing she'd underestimated Jiraiya.
Jiraiya's confidence wasn't just empty bravado—he had the strength to back it up. Thanks to his daily training rewards, his body had become a powerhouse. If he couldn't hold his own against Gamabunta now, he might as well find a rock to crawl under.
Taking advantage of Gamabunta's momentary shock, Jiraiya performed a one-handed seal. The lightning on the Lightning Flame Blade surged, jumping onto Gamabunta's sword and racing toward his body in a flash.
"Argh!"
Gamabunta howled in pain as the lightning seared his skin. His grip faltered, and his sword clattered to the ground. Parts of his massive body were scorched, releasing an aroma of cooked meat into the air.
From a distance, Fukasaku sniffed and remarked, "Well, that's a pleasant surprise—Bunta smells pretty tasty grilled."
"You're right, old man. Maybe I should try electrifying some fresh bugs next time we're cooking," Shima added, completely unbothered by their son's plight.
"Father, Mother, aren't your comments a bit harsh?" Gamahiro muttered nervously.
"Quiet! Interrupt me again, and I'll let you taste some lightning yourself!" Shima snapped.
'Talking really is a pain,' Gamahiro thought to himself, deciding he was better off staying silent.
...
"You brat! You'll pay for this!" Gamabunta roared, launching another barrage of Water Bullets.
But Jiraiya wasn't fazed.
"This won't work on me," he said, eyes cold and focused.
With another one-handed seal, Jiraiya unleashed a concentrated arc of lightning chakra from his blade. The brilliant flash tore through the air, slicing straight through Gamabunta's attack and slamming into the toad himself.
