Chapter 6

This instance, the reactions went wild. Some berated the judge, others hurled insults at me.

One individual even launched a public polling channel.

Indeed, when spectators dispute the Court of Justice's ruling, a public vote can be triggered. Within moments, the tally declaring my guilt reached 26%. Should it hit 60%, the audience could potentially convict me.

Lily shot me a defiant glance. At this juncture, she no longer needed to keep up her act.

The judge, disregarding this, proceeded to request evidence from Lily.

Lily, with her head held high, presented the final piece of proof.

This portion aimed to paint me as petty and self-centered.

It depicted Lily and me arranging a holiday trip to the Maldives. However, just as we were set to depart, Ryan appeared with his luggage.

My expression immediately soured.

Ryan, with a mischievous grin, said to me, "I'm here to capture your memories. Professional vacation photographers charge a fortune these days. Don't fret, brother-in-law, I'll cover my own expenses."

But Lily swiftly objected, "How can we let you pay your own way when you're doing us a favor? We should at least cover your costs, right darling?"

She tugged at my sleeve as she spoke.

I jerked my arm away from Lily and retorted, "If you've got money to burn, why not donate it? This is your friend, why should I foot the bill?"

Lily was taken aback. She gazed at me helplessly, tears welling up.

"Darling, we're married. Aren't my friends your friends too?"

I scoffed, "Don't make me nauseous. Is there really such a thing as platonic friendship between men and women?"

I stormed off, leaving the pair in an uncomfortable situation.

After the footage played, the judge still declared, "For the third accusation of being petty and self-centered, the defendant is found not guilty."

As he spoke, the vote tally on the large screen began to climb, reaching 58%. This indicated that if it continued to rise, I could be convicted regardless of the judge's verdict.

[Who claims there's no such thing as platonic male-female friendships? Jack must have a warped mind to view everything as impure!]

[Even if they're just friends, shouldn't you still cover the photography costs? How can Jack be so stingy that he won't spend a dime? Why don't you just perish in poverty?]

[If you can't accept your wife having friends, why don't you just chain her to your side? Repulsive scoundrel, miserly wretch, petty-minded individual!]

An increasing number of commenters were siding with Lily.

Lily now exuded confidence. Eager to expedite the voting process, she directly addressed me, "Darling, I know you resent me. I won't argue about you secretly bribing the judge. All I ask is for your complete attention and affection, and for you to allow me to maintain friendships freely. We can still continue our life together."
