Chapter 5

I coughed a few times, choking. The after-effects of excessive blood loss hit me, and I slumped weakly against the wall, letting my body slide down.

I stared intently into Lorne's eyes, using my last bit of strength to say:

"The day of the over-donation, I lost the baby."

"Eight months premature, a boy, stillborn."

Hearing this, Lorne staggered back a few steps, his eyes filled with disbelief.

Fabiana promptly wrapped her arm around him, softly consoling:

"Lorne, it was just a blood draw, how could that be possible?"

"Right... right, just a blood draw, how could that be possible?"

As a doctor, he knew better than anyone the severe harm blood loss could cause to a pregnant woman, but he still feigned composure, trying to argue against it.

As if doing so could absolve him of his guilt.

The shock in Lorne's eyes was replaced by disgust.

"You idiot."

I unveiled my shirt in front of everyone, unable to argue with him any longer.
