Chapter 3

The aircraft touched down, and I found myself back on well-known terrain. During the cab journey to the university, my mind was awash with recollections of my time with Ramona.

I recalled my first glimpse of her on campus. She wore a pristine white gown that danced in the breeze, basking in the sunlight, and offering me a gentle grin.

I acquired her WeChat contact information under the guise of assisting her with her baggage. I sent her daily greetings in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I invested time and resources to ensure her happiness, accompanying her on shopping trips and covering her expenses. It took me a quarter of a year of courtship before I mustered the courage to express my feelings.

When I noticed her uncertainty, seemingly on the verge of rejection, I swiftly expressed the depth of my affection, vowing to cherish her. Only then did I succeed in persuading her to become my partner.

Once we were together, I shared everything with her, including confidential work information, without hesitation. We spent what I believed to be a delightful and joyous period together. At least, that was my perception.

At times, she would avoid taking calls in my presence, but I never questioned it, respecting her privacy. Occasionally, when discussing family matters, she would become flustered and refuse to elaborate. I assumed it was due to a complex family situation, and feeling sympathy, I would promptly change the subject.

I believed that by giving her my entire heart, our relationship would endure. I never anticipated the shock she would deliver.

I was the one intruding on their marital union. This realization once again pierced my heart.

The phone screen reflected Dmitri's visage. I gazed at it, pondering how I, a 6'1" exceptionally attractive man, could not rival this fifty-year-old individual. The thought intensified my heartache.

The driver's voice jolted me from my reverie. I exited the vehicle, standing at the university entrance, determination evident in my gaze. Ramona, this time I won't fall for your deception.
