A Lover’s Squabble

Ha-na stood beside her car in front of her company's building, waiting. The night was comparatively cooler compared to other nights, and she felt a slight chill slither its way across her back.

She stared up at the smattering maple standing regally in front of her office. Its leaves had started to turn yellow. Fall was fast approaching.

And with it, the anniversary of her parents' death. Or disappearance, as she liked to call it.

That day, every year, held a plethora of mishaps and ill luck for her. It was the one day in a year when she was jinxed.

She never liked to go out during that time. But Soo-ah and Min-seo continue to insist that it was all in her head and wasn't true. But she knew better.

She vividly recalled the day her grandmother had told her parents had gone to heaven. Two months before then, her parents had gone on a long trip and promised to return but they never did. For a long time, Ha-na hated them for it.
