Back then, it was these nine mighty beings who joined forces to seal the passage to the Abyssal Plane.
The nine tokens embedded into the cliff wall instantly caused the entire Abyssal Passage to tremble violently. Starting from where the tokens were inserted, a vast web of golden patterns spread rapidly, extending deep into the passage.
Inside the passage, though thunderous rumbles still echoed, the entire structure seemed to stabilize slightly.
Nine circular platforms slowly emerged from the mountain wall. Leng Yaozhu flickered and was the first to reach the twelve o'clock position, sitting cross-legged upon one of the platforms. The other eight Blood Gods from the Blood God Battalion followed suit, landing on their respective platforms and sitting in meditative poses.
"With my blood as the guide!" A burst of blood mist suddenly erupted from Leng Yaozhu, forced out from every pore of her body. Her face turned pale in an instant.
"With my blood as the guide!" the other eight echoed, releasing large clouds of blood mist from their bodies as well.
The blood mist plummeted immediately, without a trace wasted, merging directly into the platforms beneath them.
Instantly, the golden runes throughout the cave lit up, clearly illuminating the deepest parts of the Abyssal Passage.
From above, one could faintly see vast black mists churning in the depths of the passage, accompanied by sharp, ear-piercing cracking sounds.
Dim purple halos flickered within the abyss, attempting to rise upward.
But with the infusion of blood from the nine Blood Gods, the array became more stable, exerting a downward suppressing force.
"Primal spirits, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!" Leng Yaozhu's passionate voice resounded above the passage.
The disk beneath her shone like a radiant sun, golden halos rising and swirling around her.
Blood Two, Guan Yue, followed with a loud chant: "Spirit of Water, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
Blood Three, Long Yeyue: "Spirit of Fire, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
Blood Four: "Spirit of Earth, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
Blood Five: "Spirit of Wind, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
"Spirit of Light, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
"Spirit of Darkness, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
"Spirit of Time, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
"Spirit of Space, heed my call. Soul of Douluo, forge the foundation!"
As the nine chants echoed, the nine disks shone with distinct colors—blue for water, red for fire, green for wind, yellow for earth, white for light, black for darkness. Most mysterious were the time and space disks: time shimmered in unpredictable gold, space in ethereal, fluctuating silver.
These nine primordial elemental spirits, invoked by the Blood Gods with their own blood, fully activated the grand formation beneath them.
This Blood God Grand Array was created by nine former peak Douluo, not merely through their strength, but as a channel to gather Douluo Continent's elemental essence—guided by intricate runes and powered by the world's own natural laws to resist foreign planes. That's how the seal had successfully kept the Abyss at bay for so long.
At the time of the original sealing, Abyssal powerhouses made a final desperate counterstrike, creating minor cracks around the barrier to allow lesser Abyssal creatures to pass without being annihilated. That's where the 36 smaller pathways came from. Had the seal been perfect, the Abyss would've been completely blocked out.
The purpose of the Blood God Battalion was to replicate that ancient process at critical moments—drawing upon the nine elemental forces to reinforce the seal to its maximum.
Though today's nine Blood Gods were, on average, weaker than the original nine founders, things had changed. Six thousand years ago, battle armor wasn't fully developed—but now, each of the Blood Gods had battle armor. Even if not all had reached the level of Limit Douluo, Blood One—Leng Yaozhu—had surpassed her predecessor, providing a full third of the array's power by herself. With armor support, the others could also reach Super Douluo levels.
In the sky, dark clouds began to shift. Faint multicolored auras shimmered. To someone like Zhang Huanyun, a Super Douluo, it was clear that elemental particles were being rapidly drawn together by the array.
These primordial spirits, embodiments of Douluo Continent's natural laws, sensed the encroachment from another world—and without hesitation, chose to protect their own realm through the array's guidance.
A nine-colored glow formed a massive dome, floating above the Abyssal Passage. Each color linked to one of the nine Blood Gods, and through them, infused the grand array.
The golden runes burst into radiant brilliance. The cracks below, which had started to widen, immediately halted—and even began to show signs of healing.
Meanwhile, in the Abyssal Plane, one king after another exploded, releasing pure Abyssal energy that poured into the passage like ravenous beasts, pulling at the cracks and forcing more energy through.
This was no longer a war between two species—it was a clash of two dimensional laws. Screeching howls shook the depths of the Abyssal Passage.
Zhang Huanyun raised his hand. "Activate shielding. Prepare shockwaves. All units, red alert!"
Though the Blood Gods had stabilized the seal, the Abyss had already committed to breaking through—there would be no retreat.
What they faced now was sure to be the most intense Abyssal Tide yet.
The Blood God Legion's elites assembled behind Zhang Huanyun. Aside from the nine Blood Gods, there were over ten other Title Douluo-level soul masters, each clad in three-word battle armor, quietly preparing for war.
Just then, deep within the Abyss—
"Your Majesty, the cost is too great. The rift has opened, but the humans have used some unknown method to further stabilize the seal. We can't break through easily. The sacrifice of ten kings might not be enough. Should we—"
"Silence. If ten aren't enough, sacrifice fifteen. If fifteen aren't enough, sacrifice twenty. We cannot allow the humans a moment to recover. I can already feel that their world's laws are beginning to spawn forces capable of destroying our entire plane. This may be our only chance—we must not let those forces grow."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The sacrifice continued.
As one Abyssal king after another perished before him, the Abyssal Sovereign's aura burst forth. A beam of blood-red light pierced countless layers of defense, slamming into the golden rune array sealing the passage.
"Hmm? The Douluo Plane's suppressive force on me has weakened." The Sovereign's eyes lit up with joy. Last time he had attacked, most of his power was suppressed and erased by Douluo's dimensional resistance.
But now, very little of it was nullified.
BOOM!
The nine Blood Gods at the seal all shuddered violently. Six of them, below Limit Douluo, couldn't help but spit blood.
Leng Yaozhu's expression changed. She raised a hand, and six drops of divine Phoenix Fire shot out, hovering over the six weakened Blood Gods, helping stabilize their platforms.
With the explosion, the nearly-healed seal ruptured again. Waves of dense black mist surged outward, forming countless Abyssal creatures that swarmed toward the passage exit.
Leading the charge were enormous Guardian Beetles. They shielded the oncoming Abyssal forces with their massive bodies, tanking even soul weapon blasts with ease.
"We can't waste our trump cards on these things. Everyone, follow me and eliminate them!" Zhang Huanyun glanced at the Blood Gods who were maintaining the array and took action himself, leading the rest of the Blood God Legion's Title Douluo into battle.
The five strongest Guardian Beetles were each equivalent to Title Douluo-level beings—three at regular Title Douluo strength, and two at Super Douluo level. Elsewhere, they would be Abyssal Kings.
Now, having descended onto the Douluo Continent, they didn't feel any suppression or rejection from the plane at all.
"Heaven favors the Abyss, hahaha! Damn humans, you oppressed us before only because the plane suppressed us. Now it's payback time!" From the midst of the Abyssal army, a terrifying aura shot into the sky.
She looked no different from a human woman—clad in black leather, two black wings unfurled behind her. Beautiful, with long black hair fanned out behind her head like a disk, and her eyes shimmered with cold, piercing light.
Her gaze seemed to pierce through the world itself. With a point of her finger, tens of thousands of Abyssal beasts charged forth.
"Black Empress!" Zhang Huanyun's face darkened as he instantly recognized her.
After six thousand years of conflict with the Abyss, the Blood God Legion had thoroughly cataloged the Abyssal hierarchy.
The Black Empress was the ruler of the Black Emperor clan, ranked ninth among the Abyssal Emperors. Only the top ten layers of the Abyss had Emperors, giving her immense status.
Her strength was on par with a quasi-god—comparable to a human with four-word battle armor and Limit Douluo power. Even her projections had caused huge problems for humanity in the past.
Now, she had arrived in person. It was a clear sign that the Abyss would stop at nothing.
The Black Empress met Zhang Huanyun's gaze. In an instant, his eyes felt like they were being pierced by needles. His mind went blank, and he nearly plummeted from the sky.
She didn't hesitate—she lunged toward him.
"Not so fast! If you don't want to die, crawl back to the Abyss!" A crisp voice rang out, and terrifying black flames descended from the sky, completely engulfing the Black Empress.
