Chapter 406 – Do You Have No Empathy at All

On the Abyssal battlefield, amidst the countless Abyssal creatures, a group of powerful beings weaved through them, instantly throwing the Abyssal forces into disarray.

Each of them was incomparably strong—like tigers among sheep—their eyes locked onto the many Abyssal Kings one after another.

A short while ago, those Abyssal Kings were still dreaming of conquering the Douluo Plane alongside the Abyssal Sage King. But now, they had just stepped foot onto the Douluo Continent and were already being hunted down and fleeing in all directions.

But facing Gu Yue's band of marauders, where could they possibly run?

In a short span of time, the Abyssal Kings disappeared completely from the battlefield.

"There aren't many Abyssal Kings here. There are still more in the Abyss. Follow me—let's charge into the Abyss and kill them!" As the invading Abyssal Kings were slowly exterminated, Gu Yue quickly realized that the number of Plane Seeds collected was still far too few.

Without hesitation, she led the soul beast powerhouses straight toward the Abyssal passageway.

"Bandits, a bunch of bandits…" Xia Yi looked up at the sky and sighed. The prototype of the Soul Beast God Realm had just been established, and this was the time it most desperately needed energy.

One of Xia Yi's reasons for coming to the Blood God Legion was to find an opportunity to explore the Abyss and see if he could plunder some Abyssal energy in return.

He hadn't expected that just as he arrived, the Abyss would launch an all-out invasion.

But in a way, this also saved Xia Yi a great deal of trouble.

"Wow, so many Plane Seeds—we've struck it rich!" As soon as Gu Yue entered the Abyss, she spotted a massive pile of Plane Seeds—these were the very Seeds sacrificed to the passage-guarding Abyssal Kings.

The Abyssal Sage King had promised them a 100% chance of resurrection.

But now, that was clearly no longer possible.

"You all head back to the Soul Beast God Realm. I'll help the Nine Dragon Kings deal with the Abyssal Sage King." After sweeping up all the Plane Seeds, Gu Yue immediately set her sights on the Abyssal Sage King.

His Plane Seed was Gu Yue's ultimate target.

Had it not been for the fear that she would be stalled by the Abyssal Sage King and that the other Plane Seeds would be looted by Leng Yulai and her sister, Gu Yue would have attacked him the moment she appeared.

"Kill!" Seeing the Abyssal Sage King besieged by the Nine Dragon Kings, Gu Yue didn't hesitate and instantly joined the fray, silver dragon spear in hand.

"You call this heroic, ganging up on me? Fight me one-on-one if you've got the guts!" the Abyssal Sage King roared in fury. He had already realized that every other Abyssal King besides him was dead.

The Abyss was finished!

"One-on-one? Heh. Die." Gu Yue sneered coldly and charged in with her spear. With the help of the Nine Dragon Kings, the Abyssal Sage King was quickly suppressed.

As the ten dragons clashed furiously with the Abyssal Sage King in the sky, Leng Yulai held Leng Yaozhu's hand and asked, "Sister, how many Abyssal Seeds did you get?"

"Five." Leng Yaozhu replied, clearly frustrated.

"I got seven, but two of them were killed by Guan Yue." Leng Yulai said.

"The big haul went to the soul beasts." Leng Yaozhu looked again at the battle raging above.

"They were clearly prepared in advance. It's understandable that we couldn't compete with them." Leng Yulai smirked mischievously and asked, "Sister, want to find out what's really going on here?"

"You have a way?" Leng Yaozhu was surprised. The soul beasts were clearly stronger than them now.

More importantly, though they were bandits, Gu Yue had a point—they did help the Blood God Legion.

With that, what reason did the Legion have to go against them?

Leng Yulai leaned in and whispered into Leng Yaozhu's ear in a sultry, flirtatious tone, "Want to know what's really going on with those soul beasts? How about we interrogate our husband together tonight?"

"You're saying this has something to do with Xia Yi?" Leng Yaozhu froze and quietly glanced in his direction.

Just then, Xia Yi felt a chill run down his spine. He instinctively looked up and saw Leng Yulai flashing him an innocent smile.

"Otherwise, how do you explain how calm he's been this whole time?" Leng Yulai gave Xia Yi a smug glance before continuing to whisper into Leng Yaozhu's ear.

"But why would those terrifying soul beasts listen to him?" Leng Yaozhu was still puzzled. Among soul beasts, power was everything. She couldn't understand why such powerful beings would follow Xia Yi's commands.

"Aren't we sisters also willing to obey him?" Leng Yulai chuckled and said, "Even a proud woman like you is willing to follow him. Why wouldn't those soul beasts do the same?"

Hearing that, Leng Yaozhu fell silent and lowered her head.

In truth, she had already realized that Xia Yi had some complicated, tangled connection to these soul beasts. She just didn't want to confront the truth.

She was afraid—afraid that if she uncovered the full extent of Xia Yi's secrets, their relationship might fall apart due to differing loyalties.

That was her deepest fear.

So even though she knew Xia Yi had major secrets, she never investigated, never asked—she just pretended she didn't know.

Leng Yaozhu also knew that one day, all of Xia Yi's secrets would come to light. But she truly hoped that day wouldn't come too soon.

As the deputy tower master of the Spirit Pagoda, she knew better than anyone how much humanity had persecuted soul beasts over the years.

And now Xia Yi was tied up with so many soul beast powerhouses.

So many powerful soul beasts suddenly appearing—what was their goal?

And what did Xia Yi intend to do?

Leng Yaozhu was genuinely worried.

"Sister, are you worried about something?" Leng Yulai grabbed her hand and played with her fingers, giggling, "So soft and delicate… no wonder brother-in-law likes them so much."

"Get lost! Can't you take anything seriously?!" Leng Yaozhu smacked away Leng Yulai's hand, her chest heaving—clearly she was furious.

"I was just being honest, what's wrong with that?" Leng Yulai muttered, pouting as she flipped her waist-length hair. Then she smiled and said, "Sister, I believe in brother-in-law. Why don't you? I'm curious—do you not trust him, or do you not trust yourself?"

"…I don't trust myself," Leng Yaozhu said softly. "I can't be as carefree as you, just following him no matter what. Sometimes I really envy you. You can cast everything aside. Even if he became a devil king, you'd follow him without hesitation. But I can't."

"But sister, have you ever thought—if he really is unforgivable, or from a human perspective, truly unforgivable… what would you do?" Leng Yulai asked with a playful smile.

"I think… I'd go down with him," Leng Yaozhu replied quietly.

Hearing her calm tone, Leng Yulai's curiosity was piqued. Her big innocent eyes sparkled as she held her sister's hand and asked, "Your tone is so calm… Sister, have you asked yourself that question over and over again in your heart before?"

"Leng Yulai!" Leng Yaozhu gritted her teeth and glared at her, asking coldly, "I'm your sister, and I'm pouring my heart out to you—can't you show a shred of empathy?"

"Empathy?" Leng Yulai dramatically wiped away imaginary tears and grinned, "Like this?"

"Y-You… GET LOST!" Leng Yaozhu snapped and kicked her squarely in the butt, sending her flying into the sky.

If she didn't kick her away, she really felt like she might cough up blood from sheer frustration.
