"Xiao Hong..."
"Call me Xiao Hong one more time and I'll strip all your leaves."
Beneath the Ancient Tree of Life, the Phoenix God let out a sharp cry and hugged the massive tree tightly, shaking it with all her might. Even the Tree of Life couldn't withstand her strength, and its leaves flew in all directions.
"Alright, alright! I won't call you Xiao Hong anymore, okay? If you keep shaking me, I'm really going to fall apart," the Goddess of Life slowly emerged from within the tree, looking utterly hopeless as she faced the Phoenix God. "It's just a nickname. Is it really that big a deal? Xiao Zi calls me Xiao Lu all the time."
"Save your dog food for someone else. Don't bring the pet names between you two lovebirds into this. I saved your lives, don't forget that. Let me warn you—if you dare spread this nickname, I'll cut ties with you," the Phoenix God snapped coldly at the Goddess of Life. If Gu Yue found out she was called Xiao Hong, she'd laugh herself to death.
"Tch, even if you hadn't saved us, Yali would've revived us anyway. And now I get it—when you fought the Dragon God and told me not to interfere, saying it was an internal beast matter, it was all because you wanted to fake your death and escape. You fooled everyone, even me! I was busting my ass trying to bring you back," the Goddess of Life retorted with undisguised disdain—there wasn't even a hint of gratitude, just sheer annoyance.
After the Great Deity Circle battle ended and it was confirmed that the Goddess of Life and the God of Destruction were no longer threats to Xia Yi, Yali released their divine consciousnesses. The moment she did, the Phoenix God—who possessed both the Seeds of Life and Destruction—tracked them down and returned the Ancient Tree of Life and the Staff of Destruction, as well as the two Seeds. She even found a highly spiritual place to help them revive.
Yet the Goddess of Life didn't feel thankful at all.
The Phoenix God had played her like a fiddle.
In the Divine Realm, the Phoenix God had always had a good relationship with her. She had faked her death and reincarnated as the Crimson Mother to cultivate destruction, hoping to fuse it with the power of creation and break through the limits of a God King.
Her plan had actually been inspired by the fusion of the Goddess of Life and the God of Destruction's powers.
Even during her reign as ruler of the divine beasts, the reason she could stay in harmony with the Divine Realm's center for so many years was largely thanks to the Goddess of Life mediating on her behalf.
In the battle of the Great Deity Circle, the Phoenix God immediately snatched the Ancient Tree of Life, the Staff of Destruction, and both Seeds. It was all to bring back the Goddess of Life and the God of Destruction.
"Haha, I knew it—the second-rate Phoenix God was your creation," the Phoenix God laughed loudly. "Even the nonsense about the Space Bug siblings you used to fool the Dragon God—you actually believed that?"
"Hmph, I didn't believe it. It was just a last-ditch gamble," the Goddess of Life replied coldly.
"Well, no matter what, I'm still touched you worked so hard to revive me," the Phoenix God smirked, then changed the subject. "But tell me—if I had told you my plan ahead of time, would you have reported it to the Divine Realm Council?"
"I would," the Goddess of Life answered without hesitation. At that time, the Phoenix God was the God King-level ruler of all beasts. If she left, it would certainly cause upheaval in the Divine Realm. As a member of the council, the Goddess of Life would've had no choice but to report it and work with the other God Kings.
"There you go!" The Phoenix God shrugged. "If you'd sell me out, why the hell would I tell you anything?"
"Well, regardless—thank you for protecting the God of Space," the Phoenix God added. After the Dragon God War, even the remaining divine beasts would've had their divine cores stripped. Only the God of Space was an exception. His original form was a Space Bug, technically a beast, yet he was left untouched—undoubtedly due to the Goddess of Life's protection.
"You really think I protected him because of you? Don't flatter yourself. Yes, he was under your command, but he's not a normal beast. In fact, he's not even a beast. The Space Bug race isn't part of the beast clan—they're innate cosmic spirits of space. Keeping him in the Divine Realm has its benefits. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered," the Goddess of Life said blandly.
Despite her clear attempt to distance herself, the Phoenix God didn't take offense. "Alright, whatever you say. I've got things to do—see you another time."
"Hey, wait. How's that thing I asked you about coming along?" the Goddess of Life suddenly called out.
"You mean your Xiao Zi? Don't worry—I've already found a suitable environment for his revival. Once you're fully restored, he'll be able to fully revive too," the Phoenix God assured her. The Goddess of Life and the God of Destruction's powers repelled each other. While this place suited her, it would be dangerous for him. So she had to place him elsewhere.
"With you around, I'm not worried," the Goddess of Life smiled. She knew that for her sake, the Phoenix God would give it her all to bring him back.
"You weren't talking about the God of Destruction?" The Phoenix God looked confused.
"I was talking about you and Xia Yi. Didn't I tell you to go chase him?" the Goddess of Life asked.
"What, just because you told me to? Who are you to me? Besides, I'm beyond the God King realm now. I can have any man I want—why rush to be someone's side piece?" the Phoenix God rolled her eyes, proud and defiant.
"Oh, Xiao Hong, you can't think that way," the Goddess of Life said earnestly, like a caring older sister. "Sure, you're above the God King level and can have any man—but do you actually want any of them? As your friend, would I lead you wrong? I know Xia Yi—sure, he's a bit of a playboy, but he's someone you could entrust your life to. If you don't go after him, are you really planning to stay single forever?"
"So what if I am? What's wrong with how I live now?" the Phoenix God countered.
"Is it good, really?" The Goddess of Life curled her lip. "Look at you, then look at Gu Yue. Don't you feel your life's a joke in comparison? And besides—doesn't stealing her man sound thrilling?"
"Xiao Lu, are you really still the kind-hearted Goddess of Life I know? Since when did you get so twisted?" the Phoenix God stared at her in disbelief. "I don't mind annoying Gu Yue, but sacrificing myself just to get under her skin? That's a bit much, don't you think?"
"Forget it—you're just an old virgin. What do you know about the pleasures of love? If I were you and had truly sworn off men, I'd go raise a harem of a hundred or so hot young studs. Have some fun, go wild. Who cares what others think?" the Goddess of Life said nonchalantly.
The Phoenix God's face went dark. Without a word, she turned and left. If she hadn't heard it herself, she'd never have believed those words came from the Goddess of Life.
"Where are you going?" the Goddess of Life called out.
"To pick out my boy toys," the Phoenix God replied flatly as her figure vanished.
"That's what you said! If you don't get at least a hundred and eighty of them, I'll look down on you!" the Goddess of Life shouted into the sky.
