"So?" Sienna-Rose asked, her voice steady as her gaze locked onto the king's projection, waiting for an answer that refused to come.

 

Behind her calm expression, tension coiled tight in her chest. The air around her crackled, thick with restrained power, while just a few feet away, one of the six royal sorcerers writhed on the ground, clawing at his throat, caught between life and death.

 

Sienna-Rose didn't want to take a life. She hated the feeling of it, the heaviness it left behind, and the chill that stayed in her bones long after the body had fallen. But she knew better now.

 

If she didn't act, it wouldn't be her pain to bear; it would be her family's. Next time, it would be one of her wives, or it would be her children. And that was a future she could not allow to exist.
