Chapter 50 - Unit Test(4)

Nathan and his unit moved through the testing grounds with a sense of growing boredom.

The beasts they encountered so far—lions, apes, tigers, and direwolves—were no match for them.

Even the lions and direwolves, which traveled in packs, barely posed a challenge.

Because of that, Nathan couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment.

These creatures, although might not have been formidable opponents a few months ago, still would've made for entertainment but now, they just felt like mere annoyances.

The group had grown much too strong, too fast.

As they walked, Nathan decided to check his status. He muttered under his breath, "AEGIS, show me my stats."

A robotic voice responded in a neutral tone, [Affirmative.]

A holographic interface appeared before him, displaying his information:

________________________________________________________________________________

Name: Nathaniel Hunt

Race: Human

Age: 16

Abilities: Integration, Angel's Wings

Synchronization: 19%

________________________________________________________________________________

Nathan nodded to himself. At 19% synchronization, he was now roughly as strong as a weaker Class 2 soldier.

It was a significant improvement, but he couldn't help but wonder how he stacked up against Theodore now.

Theodore was undeniably talented, that he couldn't deny, and he also had no doubt that his half-brother had been training just as hard over the past month.

So whether he had finally caught up to him or not was still a mystery. But if he had to pick he would say it's unlikely he has caught up.

His eyes then lingered on the ability listed as Integration.

It was something he hadn't used or even bothered to explore since arriving in this world.

It wasn't something that was mentioned in the novel, which made it all the more intriguing.

But just as he was about to ask AEGIS for more information, a loud, guttural roar echoed through the forest, cutting him off.

The group froze for a moment before turning toward the source of the sound.

Nathan's lips curled into a smirk, and he wasn't the only one. River, Marcus, Maria, and even Lucas wore devious grins.

Finally, here was something worth fighting.

The beast that emerged from the trees was massive, standing as tall as a tree with a hulking, bear-like body.

Its claws were long and sharp, made of what appeared to be steel, each one as long as a sword.

The creature's eyes glowed with a feral intelligence, and its roar shook the ground beneath their feet.

River stepped forward, her voice calm but commanding. "Unit, prepare to battle."

Without hesitation, they rushed at the beast. Nathan unfurled his wings, using them to propel himself forward with incredible speed.

He slashed at the creature's legs with his katana, aiming to cripple it.

The blade cut deep, but the beast barely flinched, swiping at him with its massive claws. Nathan dodged, his wings flaring to keep him airborne.

Marcus was next, his electrokinesis crackling through the air as he unleashed a barrage of lightning bolts at the beast.

The electricity arced across its body, causing it to roar in pain and anger.

River used her geokinesis to create spikes of earth that shot up from the ground, impaling the creature's underside.

It stumbled, giving Maria the opening she needed.

Maria's vines shot out from the ground, wrapping around the beast's limbs and torso.

With a flick of her wrist, she tightened the vines, crushing the creature's bones with a sickening crunch.

The beast let out a final, agonized roar before Lucas stepped in, his longsword flashing in the sunlight as he cleanly beheaded the monster.

The fight was over almost as quickly as it had begun. The group stood around the fallen beast, their breathing barely labored and their expressions triumphant.

Nathan wiped a bit of sweat from his brow, a satisfied smile on his face. "Not bad," he said, glancing at his teammates.

But before they could even celebrate their victory, more roars echoed through the forest.

This time, there were three of them. The ground trembled as the new beasts approached, their silhouettes visible through the trees.

Nathan cracked his knuckles, his smirk widening. "Let the feast begin," he said, his voice filled with anticipation.

The unit readied themselves, their eyes sharp and their movements fluid. Now the real test begins.
